So where do you use the power?

Okay - another dumbass and probably quite niave post of mine but i can't figure this out.

my bike, while quite quick is still not *that* fast when compared to the likes of the thou-sports bikes or even other 750's..

but. it will still break the law in every gear in about 3 seconds if i let it.

even at half throttle to about 7k pulling away from the lights it *sounds* like i am in a formula 1 car and i worry the cops will pull me up for "recklass accelleration" like they do the boy racers.

So where do you guys find that you actually use the power? i still haven't made the bike truly scream. everything else around me just moves too slowly for me to be able to do it. and legally its just a plain no-no.

am i being too conservative? maybe too responsible? maybe i am just being a big pussy.

do you guys on your R1's and GSXR1000's ever actually ring them out on the road???
    gone.

Go up SH16, or down 22, or thru round thru kaiaua and on to the coromandle loop. you'll find you use a bit more power than you would in town

my bike does 107kph in first.. the thous are geared for something stupid like 140 in first..

I use the power to get the front wheel up, to get out of trouble, anywhere mostly out of town, to make it sound good, to scare the shit outta me.. lots of places. you're just not trying hard enough

just don't do it around fuzz

i have a couple of times, its a bit dangerous on public roads IMO.
the track is good, however i certainly dont use all the power! i dont know if i ever will have the skills to use ALL the power of a bike like this....
if you can find a private road, thats a good place to open it up in all the gears

    Anywhere I can.

I avoid the popular state highways (particularly 1) because there's more cops on them, so I tend to like back roads (which are more interesting anyway). SHW's are painful cos I go very, very slow on them to avoid losing the license to have fun. So you won't find me on them very often at all.

That is part of being a responsible rider, knowing where all those closed private roads are hidden.

On the road, nah not much. There is a private road not far from here that we use for wheelies etc and the odd speed run, but going fast in a straight line bores me, give me corners any day. What I do love about the thou is the thump out of corners in almost any gear, opposed to the winding up effect of the gixxer 750.

Haven't taken this one on the track yet, I was watching some onboard footage of me at the track recently from my 750 and I was redlining it out of corners etc, but I don't think I'll be doing that on the thou just yet!!!!

So do I...they may be a bit slower into the corners than a 750, but they are shit loads faster coming out!

I've purposely had my bike up to 130 in 1st and close to 200 in 2nd just to check out how fast it will go in those gears, so i guess i could say i have used all available power...but there's more to using the power of the bike than just reving it out in a straight line.

The track is certainly a great place to experiment with how much of your bikes power you can use, you should try it sometime Lazy7! :spudbn:

    Thumbs up

Lazy7, whereabouts in Dorkland are ya? Post an idea of area, and I'm sure you'll get lots of suggestions for "quiet" roads.

I'm in East Aucks/Botany area, and luckily I'm 5 mins from roads that are generally fast, clean, and in a good state of repair. One of my fave loops is thru clevedon to Maraetai and back, another is Clevedon, Kawakawa Bay and back, and the longer one is thru Kaiaua.

Gremlin used to have some favourite roads around here as well (Sandstone road mr G?) but I have forbidden him to ride them anymore as his bike is a yukky colour, and I keep seeing a red/black CBR600RR around the same roads, plus a few other regulars who I have waved over and had a chat with but they aren't KB members.

Go hard man. The answer is to case the road you are on for an hour or 2 by crusing it up and down with you and a couple of buddys. Then, when you are convinced you are "safe" just go for it. I have a few roads down here that are suitable but its too risky to name them as it attracts the wrong sort of people . Not that the guys/girls wearing blue that regularly visit here would use the information but .....

in new market and west auckland. scenic drive is nice. its a good road to go on because most of the corners are reasonably tight and you can have fun without breaking the law... too much.

but i think you've answered my question. i think i read somewhere that you dont need more than 100hp in a road bike and i think tend to agree.

my old 400 was almost more fun because i COULD ring it out.
    gone.
