Whilst the use in helmets is debateable (we want a compressible lining to absorb the shock not one that hardens on impact) I can see a use for these in boot linings. To provide a boot that is soft and flexible in normal use but hard and rigid, to protect the leg, on impact. Possibly as panels in jackets and leggings also.
