Read this earlier and was gonig to post something to do with Darwin, I knew it wouldn't be long before someone else did! I'm a member of a large sportsbike site, one of the members there posted a story of a guy he met at a stealership. The poster, an experienced fast rider, was on a GSXR600 wearing full leathers etc. Enter newbie 20yr old guy on his new purchase, a brand spanker GSXR1000. Newbie takes the piss out of GSXR600 rider, as he's on a 'bigger, faster cooler bike and doesn't need gears like he wears'. Our 600 mounted friend laughs, warns him of the dangers of riding in a shirt and jeans with no helmet etc. Newbie laughs it off, jumps on his thou and rides off, into the first guardrail he could find. He didn't even know how to turn a bike!

"Florida law does not require motorcyclists over the age of 21 to ride with a helmet unless they have at least $10,000 insurance coverage."

Do they mean you need to be over 21 and have at least $10,000 insurance coverage, or over 21 and have less than $10,000 insurance coverage to ride without a helmet?

Anyway, it's a shame it happened. Hopefully she pulls through.

Some US states require bikers to wear a helmet UNLESS they (the biker) have $10000 insurance cover (No, it doesn't make much sense to me , either).

I think the article is saying that there is no such requirement in Florida, if the biker is over 21.

Welcome to life............... Work with the new riders and lets not have this conversation about our new riders............ Set-up newbie rides and make it safe. Take the shit and don't challenge them. Experienced riders need not try and prove a point. If the newbie rider passes you, let the newbie set the pace and if they are silly enough to go to fast ......let them go. Don't chase them. Back off and they will get the message cos it is easy to follow and hard to lead.

A sad story cos everyone has somethin to offer.........

in Ohio, you need a helmet for your first 12 months on a M/C license unless you are over 18..

Dude. In america out government expects us to take care of ourselfs. MOST of us are capable of doing this. Can the same be said for here where the government is slowly taking control of everyones lives and believe it or not but with good reason?

Thats rough alright. Man, what can ya say. No helmet. Might a coped a blowy in the eye. That would hurt at 100mph and certainly cause you to lose the bike.

I remember when I was sixteen, my mates friend died without a helmet just around the corner. They weren't required back then, but he was doing about 60kmh, ripped the throttle open to pull a wheelie, chain snapped, wrapped around his left leg and pulled him off the bike. Whacked his head on the kerb and it was all over

Fluke accident they reckoned back then, but would have still been alive had he been wearing a lid.

Correction. You have to stick to 250cc bikes on a learners there aswell. BUT you can apply for your full as soon as you get your learners.

Bugger, but at least it might make a few others on the road safer. I still feel sorry for her folks, brother or sisters and friends. They must be going through a hell of a lot because of her negligent actions.
