New bike going bad!!!!

New Daytona Manufactured '03 arrived in NZ '05 with a small number of others .....all yellow I believe and I believe they came from Europe......going cheaper that normal. Travelled 4600km hadn't riden for about 10 days, went to go fro a ride...wouldn't start, trailered to dealer, compression at 50psi per 3 pots and failed leak test 100%. They found a powder like corrosion around inlet valve area.....cleaned , got going now 2 weeks on back to shop as smoking blue on start up, idle and when you give throttle a twist 5000 - 6000rpm, wife even noticed when I started it up and said what is that horrible smell, you know the smell the smell of a tired motor burning oil!!!! Shop is waiting approval from UK to delve into problem. I am wishing I didn't selling my '02 Daytona to my mate. At 4600km I think I should be in for a new bike????? ANY THOUGHTS

Sounds like a fairly major fault there mate. Almost like rings or a hole in the piston, but Im not known for my mechanical aptitude. I would be talking a new bike here if it isn't user fault.

I'd be telling the dealer to replace it with a Kawasaki. Mind you, I would have bought a Kawasaki to start with.

If ther're a good dealer they will rectify the problem, and lets hope they are otherwise you have plenty of options.

One of them is to goto the Commerce commision i think and theres a name of another service that deals with such things like the consumer guarantees act or summing..

But the best thing of all is when they fail to rectify the problem xx amount of times, you can take it somewhere else and hand the dealer the bill :P:P
I've had to take this avenue when my moped was completely fucked when i bought it. Worked well until i went surfing on it, after slipping on some newly painted white lines here in chch

But ahh well, was a cheap piece of shit that cost 1.5 x its worth to have fixed which i didnt pay for

*Edit, One of the conditions in the Fair trading act is that the goods must be fit for thier intended purpose... If not then thats your leverage

Nothing wrong with a good Kwaka except I haven't owned one since mid 70's had a H1.......nearly killed me!!!! Have mates with them ZX10 and ZZR1200 very different but good to ride on different days......Anyway yes....well this is my second Daytona and they are a good allround road bike with no particular strengths or weaknesses. At the end of the day this is a new motorcycle demonstrating signs of very early failure and true they can repair but at 4600km I would believe the life of this motor is now considerably shortened don't you think????

mate I'ld say your bikes lemon...it happens...push the dealer for a replacment bike...other wise you'll be waiting for F'ing ever to get your bike fixed...it sounds major...

if they don't, threaten with Sale of Goods Act / Fair Trading Act / Commerce Commission etc

Is that the ones that are selling for $16,500 any way all new Triumphs are sold with a 2 year 100,000km waranty so things should sort them selves out I have just bought a new Speed Triple so Ill keep an eye out for similar problems. Mine was in a batch that was originaly ment for the German market but ended up in NZ any way if your dealer gives you any strife just ask him if he is aware of the consumer guarantees act
