    Help,balance shaft diagram.

Does anyone have a diagram of how engine balance shafts work? The website I had bookmarked is gone.We are trying to put together a Honda stationary engine, and it has a single balance shaft, with no timing marks, but does has a pin hole to lock it in place.I presume this gets put in at the same time as the camshaft is timed on TDC - but I want a diagram so I can run the thing through my head to make sure it's right.

I've seen it explained countless times, but have searched and searched on google and got nothing.

This explains single cylinder ones quite well, with a diagram

Yes,I've read that one,and it explains it enough to know I'm right - but a picture is worth a thousands words....I'm not too good on the word thing.

[edit] Ahem, sorry about that - I didn't realise I could make that incomprehensable tiny picture bigger. So yeah that explains it,I just need to run that diagram through my brain and apply it to the real thing in my hands. In this engine you time the cam as per usual, the balance shaft is driven by a seperate gear on the crankshaft with no marks. The balance shaft is bolted to the inside of the timing cover, you can't see the crank and balance shaft together, once that cover is bolted on it better be right. But the balance shaft gear is locked with a bolt through the cover, the weight is at the bottom,at TDC the crank balance weight is on the bottom too.Sorted.

Very informative site. Last night a guy was trying to explain to me how they work on my RS, needless to say it makes alot more sense now.
