Just spoke to the bike place... and it was all BAD news

The sub-frame will take approx 3 hours to fix... I asked why and its because they have to put the fairings on, check it, take the fairings off, try to fix it and then repeat until perfect..

And they charge $67.50 per hour...

then to make things worse, my right side fork is leaking oil... so the seal needs to be replaced and the oil replaced... and this will take approx another 3 hours work.. So parts for fork thingy $50-$100... plus labour

And whats EVEN worse... my stupid front brake disc's are 3.3mm and 3.2mm the standard for passing WOF/Compliance is 3.5mm. So they both need to be replaced at $400 EACH.

So running on a bare minimum I'm looking at another $1255, and that doesn't include the labour for changing the brake disc's

Proberly a good thing my bike isn't home right now otherwise I'd be kicking the shit out of it for costing me so much...

And then after paying for all that (which I'm not sure how i'm going to do in the first place), I then need the extra $170 for compliance and $190 for registration...

    *is seriously not happy now*
Ok, well I just got a PM saying if I get the brake disc's a certain gentleman (who I won't name until he names himself), can help me, or knows of someone off KB who can help me put them on for free, savings me about 2-3 hours in labour.

Mt Eden Morotcycles are looking into prices for me for the brake disc's and fork seal and oil.

If all works to plan, I'll just need to buy the parts for the forks and brakes and get them done labour charge free (cept for maybe some beer or something )

    *doesn't feel so bad now*

    Another update:

Ok, they can't find me any pretty/anodised type disc's... so normal ones it is...

The discs will cost me $389 each, then $30 for the Fork seals (come in packs of 2 - Brand: SSK064), and the oil I need for the ZXR is 15W for $18.95 per litre. And he said I should buy two just incase.

I'm off home now to work out some budget and figure out how I'm going to work this...

ok first of all. If it takes them three hours to straighten that frame they are doing something seriously fucking wrong. Get the bike home i'll sort most of that shit out for you and I don't charge labour.

The one fork seal did look a bit dodgy and USD forks are quite hard to do. As for the disks it's a fucking piece of piss to put them on. Don't know what they are going on about.

3 hours to straighten the frame. What a fucking joke. Are they gonna sit around for like 2.5 hours looking at it and willing it to be straight......

    Cool

Question: If the subframe that they sold to Placidfemme is bent.
Then surely she should get her money back and then she could get another one in better condition?????????
They sold her a bent subframe which needed to be fixed.

When I brought the subframe, they told me it was bent, and they said to bring it in so they could fix it, no mention of being charged for it... until they picked the bike up...

Apparantly it takes so long because they have to put all the fairings and parts on... check it, take the fairings and bits off... straighten it... put bits and bobs back on... check it... and continue until perfect... I also believe that 3 hours is a bit excessive seeing as i can get my fairings and instruments on and off at least 6 times in that amount of time. But it's a bit late now, I've already agreed for them to fix it, and agreed to paying them for it...

But I've told them to leave the brake disc's and forks, and I'll sort those out.

Mt Eden has the brake discs in stock and are holding them for me, same with the fork seal and oil. but once I've paid for the subframe job I won't be able to buy anything else for about a week or two..

Found some for $350.00 each and that includes new pads, which they say you should replace when replacing a disk anyway. Would need chasis number and/or year to get correct ones for your model, but they said same price anyway.

You wont need 2 litres of fork oil.
I would have thought 15 weight would be a bit heavy. It would pay to confirm this. You can hopefully get the correct weight from a workshop manual. If you don't have a workshop manual you can probably get one off of the Web. There is a manuals thread on KB somewhere which may help.

If I have to replace the brake pads too that will cost more won't it?

I've also found an Aussie company that does coloured brake disc's (yay!!!! ) and coloured sprockets, and the conversion price works out to be approx the same as buying normal parts here in NZ. I've e-mailed them in regards to colours and styles and sizes and model and should get a response soon...

Also the 15W oil is apparantly the one used for the ZXR (according to the guys at Mt Eden). but I will check that again before i buy it

I am no expert on brakes. I know how to change pads, bleed them and change disks etc. do that not infrequently.
I would have *thought* that if the pads are not very worn and not irregualr in shape you could leave them in with the new disk. But I may be wrong there, hopefully a quick PM to say Motu could clarify that one.

The price I got was from Cycletreads and they supply new pads with the new disk and that is included in the price. I believe that this is a special offer, so may not be available at all times.

As to the oil, it really would pay to double check and be sure of the weight. The X11 used 900ml, the Yamaha about 800ml and the CBR a little over 500ml. You aren't going to need more than 1 litre.

    Yip what CaN said....

Oh and you should have spoken to me before agreeing to pay the bike shop anything. I would have fixed it no worries for ya....

And let m check it for stress fractures when they return the bike cause if it has them then the vibrations of the bike could make it snap and theyfore useless....

Can't believe what they want to charge. Oh and another thing how old was your wof when you crashed?? cause your disks won't go down that munch in say like 2 months or whatever. I'll go have a chat when I take the GF's bike to be looked at.

Honestly I don't remember when I got my WOF... or when it expired.

CaN: That disc's and pads deal sounds great, I'd just like to check the prices of the Aussie ones... by the looks of things the disc's from the Aussie company cost NZ$280 each... and I don't mind paying slightly more for just brake pads if I'm getting the disc's I want

Affman: The bike is ready to be picked up today, I just have to check my balance and organise the payment... possibly get them to drop the bike back off at home cause I've got no way to get it home... I'll post later and advise on whats happening with that.

In regards to the forks...I went to Mt Eden and bought the seals and oil (might have been 5W or 10W I can't remember but definately check it out)...

This was back when I had the ZXR...

They almost scared me into letting them do it - at a large expense. Something about cassette type forks that require bleeding and are not as straightforward as normal spring type forks blah blah blah, very technical USD forks yah-de-dah...

I ignored all advice promising if I screwed it up I'd bring them in to be done properly. Took all the gear home and within an hour had the seals and oil replaced, easy peasy. Just download the ZXR manual (I think its on this site somewhere) and follow the instructions.

Cool thanks They also told me that (Well not Mt Eden, but the wreckers)

"better get it done professionally... your friends proberly don't have the right tools, and USD forks are really tricky and it takes about 3 hours... best not to try it yourself..."

to right...... or more like yeh right. If you download the manual it's a piece of piss. Havn't done it myself cause never needed to but when I do i'd rather spend the cash on some bike stands instead of very expensive mechanics.
