    Oh and here I thought it was all going to be back together this past weekend...... Oh well we shall wait patiently for next weekend...

    Just whack a hole or two in the fairings to fit the indicators...
    no one will even notice....

    Would have been with time to spare.. placid was just slightly missled as to the extent of the damage of the subframe that she bought. All the parts are there (could get the indicators going even).

    Yeah like Affman said... I didn't realise the subframe was that badly bent, it looked semi-alright until we got it on the bike...

    As for the indicators... well the ones I have would require a large hole on either side of the new fairing... the smaller indicators I have, don't draw enough current and so we can't use those ones... but there are some nice ones on TradeMe for about $55 average... So I may just get those as they only require a small hole for the wires to go through... no mess no fuss

    I just spoke to Andrew from the Wrecking place... he is coming to pick the bike up tonight for $40, he reckons it will only take Rikki (sp) about an hour, or two hours max to fix the subframe, and then they will drop it back off at home... so I think the total bill will be approx $120 at the most... *sighs*
    I'm not a complete idiot... some pieces are missing

    What the hell they arn't gonna charge you for it are they?? They sold you a something and the guy said they'd fix it for free. Don't let andrew charge you heaps if they already said they would straighten it for free. Now you understand what I was saying.

    I think Mt eden may have some for cheaper indicators than that

    Yep, I see what you mean. I did mention to him that he said the other guy would do it for free, and he continued talking like I hadn't said anything and then rambled on about how he was coming to pick up the bike after hours on his own time yadda yadda... I don't care if I have to pay... at least I get the bike back on the road sooner...

    I'll also call Mt Eden and see if Selby can find me a few options for the indicators

    Screw that. He is just trying to run ya over. ASk to talk to the guy you bought it off and explain the situation etc etc etc. It will not take Ricky an hour or 2 to fix believe me so obviously something is dodgy with this situation. As for him picking it up after hours that in itself is bullshit. Mt eden have a ute that they do charge to pick up a bike but it's basically anytime that can be arranged. Again I say talk to the guy you were speaking with and not andrew.

    Hey PF, I have recently been unfortunate enough to do some serious damage to my lovely wee ZXR250 as well. its currently getting assessed at Spectrum for cost to repair although last I talked to him he said it may be a wright-off.

    I'm just curious as to how much it has cost you for the replacement parts like top fairing, subframe, engine cover etc and where abouts you have sourced them- just incase i decide to get my bike up and running again like you have, sounds like your doing a great job as well keep it up!

    Hi, sorry to hear about your bin... hopr your didn't hurt yourself

    OK... Firstly... IF your bike is a write off, when you send in your insurance papers, include a cover letter stating you want first option on getting the bike back if it is a write off. What will happen if you are lucky, you will get the bike back for free... or worst case... pay anywhere between $500 - $1500 to get it back. Also, you could always see what they want as a buy back price and see if anyone on KB (Affman lol) is interested in buying it off you and fixing it themselves...

    As for the parts... It really depends on the damage done to your bike... So far this is what I've paid:

    From Mt Eden Motorcycles (09 303-1960)
    Battery - $59
    4L of oil - $40
    New Fairing bolts (In anodised colours) - $30
    New windscreen anodised bolts - $20
    Clutch lever - $12
    Engine Cover gasget - $15
    Spark plugs (4) - $80

    From TradeMe:
    Aftermarket blue windscreen - $65 (I've only noticed the seller selling these screens now in clear and yellow).
    Engine Cover - $50

    From City Motorcycle Wreckers in Grey Lynn (09 376-9260):
    Instruments - $150 (they have a good set in stock for $250)
    Subframe - $120
    Gear foot mount/peg bracket - $60 (There is someone on TradeMe selling these for $65)
    Brake Fluid - $14

    From Mitre10:
    Knead it - $20 (to help with plastic repairs)
    Spray paint - $20 (To paint the new fairing black until a real paint job can be afforded)

    Also you need to take into consideration the amount of time and effort put into getting all these parts, installing them and making sure they work safely.

    Depending on when you crashed your bike, and how long it's been sitting there, ask the bike shop to drain the fuel and oil, so you don't struggle later to get the bike running.

    I still need to get some front indicators (about $50).

    Then last but not least you need to get the bike legal again...

    If you call up your local VTNZ (Vehicle Testing new Zealand) they will advise you of the closest place to you that checks and re-registers bikes.

    The compliance test will cost $175 and re-registering will cost $190.

    Once the bike is re-registered, then I'd also advise, that if you fixed the bike yourself, send it in for a full service. Then your all set to go

    Right now thats all I can remember. Good luck and keep us posted on how its going (do a thread like mine or start a blog)

    Only just had accident wed last week so bike still has wof and reg - still waiting on insurance to let me know if it is a wright -off( hopefully not so I can get it all tidied up properly)
    Damage done is mainly frontal altho the front wheel/ shocks seem to be fine so it should just be front top fairing, front subframe which i may be able to straighten, headlight, both side fairings have cracks but i could get thos welded, both mirror stems, throttle grip assembly, front brake oil reseviour and left engine cover has a lovely crack as after i was hit bike got pushed over onto left side.
    Bike was running mint as before prang( when i picked it up from service at spectrum 1 hour before prang they said it was the best riding 250 they had seen for some time!) so engine should be all good.

    How much did you pay for top fairing?

    How did you get on with straightening up that front subframe as well?

    Be sad if you'd just paid for 12 months, then got it written off, and they kept the coin from the rego reimbursement.

    ahh... ok

    Well as mentioned above, the top fairing came from Just Fairings in Hamilton (see: www.justfairings.co.nz) It is $350 + $15 postage. That is for the "C" model. The "A" model fairing is $250 + shipping.

    As for the subframe, the guys from City Bike Wreckers picked my bike up on Monday night to fix the frame, i'm calling them later to see how they are doing...

    If your bike is a write off they will de-register it. And your WOF will be null and void until it is re tested.

    *has had enough of waiting...* All I wanna do is ride my damn bike

    Just spoke to the bike place... and it was all BAD news

    The sub-frame will take approx 3 hours to fix... I asked why and its because they have to put the fairings on, check it, take the fairings off, try to fix it and then repeat until perfect..

    And they charge $67.50 per hour...

    then to make things worse, my right side fork is leaking oil... so the seal needs to be replaced and the oil replaced... and this will take approx another 3 hours work.. So parts for fork thingy $50-$100... plus labour

    And whats EVEN worse... my stupid front brake disc's are 3.3mm and 3.2mm the standard for passing WOF/Compliance is 3.5mm. So they both need to be replaced at $400 EACH.

    So running on a bare minimum I'm looking at another $1255, and that doesn't include the labour for changing the brake disc's

    Proberly a good thing my bike isn't home right now otherwise I'd be kicking the shit out of it for costing me so much...

    And then after paying for all that (which I'm not sure how i'm going to do in the first place), I then need the extra $170 for compliance and $190 for registration...
