I remember a Happy Days (saw it like 20yrs ago) episode where the Fonz had to be a juror. He found no interest in it, until the case came up. Seems a motorcyclist was accused of stealing a lady's handbag with his left hand while riding his bik . The Fonz found out what bike it was and knew it had a left hand throttle, therefore (in this case) proving the rider innocent.

They already have it, I think a lot of them would be unrideable without fly by wire throttle.
I love the smell of twin V16's in the morning..

Apparently the reason for the left hand throttle was so they could ride and shoot and still be able to control the bike.

so it had nothing to do with changing gear with your right hand?

We have come a long way, now on the harleys the grip on the right hand side adjusts the volume, and not much else.

An AC stands for Mr Champion too.Even into the late '80's I was using ''detachable'' sparkplugs in the likes of my Seagull outboard and old rotary hoe.The sparkplug was 2 piece, you unscrewed the porcelain from the body, then you could clean the plug with a wire brush and scrapers - oh no,that wouldn't do these days would it! You need to sell new ones, not keep the old ones going.

Well,I guess pistons are still pistons, they came before throttles, sparkplugs, motorcycles or even fuel.

Did you know, also, that at one time you could get spare ceramics for the two piece plugs ?

(AC was the company that Mr Champion started after the bankers diddled him out of control of his Champion company).

Not much chance of a 100 year old piston fitting a modern engine. I think that the sparkplug is probably the one thing that you could take a 100 year old one and put it into a modern engine and have it work . (Hmm 100 years might be touch and go, I don't know what thread the very first ones had,but certainly 80 years, the present 14mm was around in the 1920s)
