2 Different Licenses 1 Card

I was just wondering if i am able to get a seperate drivers license card for my Full Car license? I got my learners the other month and didnt realise that they make both licenses on one card ie Leaners with both endorsements.

Nope - you get a new card each time you progress . The card states the licence classes - ie 1, 6R

A new card is in the mail for you then. Should be with you in about 10 working days.

I think the OP means he has already received his new card. Which is his problem, he now has a licence card with Learner all over it.

Not really a problem in NZ (apart from possible embarrasment).

But I know a chap got caught by this , and had enormous problems when he tried to hire a car overseas.

Full class 1, but of course the overseas car hire pople don't understand about different classes (or what class 1 means). They just see "Learner" on the licence presented to them. "Solly - no rearner driver permitted" " But i'm not" "Licence say Rearner. Solly" .

I don't think there is anyway around it.

Its not legal
but you get a second licence b4 you do your L and give one of your full licences back, and then you have one of each!
not that i did that.
my problem was when i did my L i had a flight to catch, now i had no photo ID for my national flight! untill i got my new licence in the mail! buggered if i know were my passport is!
No photo ,no aeroplane ride baby!!! remember that when you do your L licence!

If you're going overseas, you can always get a good old fashioned international drivers permit. don't know what they cost now, but they used to be 10 bucks from AAs
(they don't mean jack crap all, just look official, as far as I could tell)

Kinda makes me more eager to get my restricted.

Me learners was a seperate piece of paper but then on the restricted they joined them. Then I ended up with 2 full licenses because they made a mistake when printing my full license ... typo error in their processing dept.

Your driver licence isn't actually your property, it belongs to the director of LTNZ. When you get a replacement licence for any reason you are meant to return the old one to the LTNZ, you will note that each licence has a "version number" on it. The old licence will no longer be valid as it is not the current version of your licence. If I recall correctly there is an offence for having two licences, I've never written anybody up for it though so I can't be sure. When I come across people with an old version of their licence I simply take it off them and post it back to LTNZ.

When you apply for a new licence, they ask for some photo ID, so what do you do... you hand over your drivers licence. When I got my 6L licence, they cut up my old licence, before giving me the interim paper licence.

Really Rosie??.......... you must have looked shady.... i have 5 licence's, only one is current, but each time i went up a level (so to speak ) i got to keep the existing one, i have original full, then back to Learner, Restricted, then Full again, and a Rorotonga licence also, which is more like a gift really from the Cook Island Government.....

I don't look shady
I was applying for two licence classes at once, one of which I only had to pay the application fee for, so I was going to get a new licence whether I passed the scratch-and-win test or not. The people at AA were quite confused about the whole thing, and probably cut up my licence to teach me a lesson for being a pain in the arse on a Friday afternoon.
I'll report back in August, to see if the same thing happens when I go for my restricted.

When you obtain a new licence you are required to hand in the old one. This is law, but nothing to do with driving. It was passed because some people were giving their "old" licences to younger brothers/sisters etc , to use as ID in pubs etc.

Because it is not actually related to road safety, LTSA don't really care that much and are often fairly slack about the collecting of the old one. Just more work for them , and its not a check in the licence issuing process (ie they have a computer work flow when a new licence is issued ,and they have to do each step of it. But "collect old licence" is not part of the work flow. So they only do it if they remember and can be bothered)
