    What's up with black?

What the hell is up with motorcycle gear and the requirement to make it black?

I just wasted a day looking for a new jacket in wellington/hutt valley and it was either black, fuckin ugly or no better at protecting the wearer than a polar fleece.

Anyone have any suggestions in how to find something that doesn't make me look like a wannabe ninja?

    Lurch.

    ...rant over.

Black is the only universal colour. It's the only colour that doesn't look gay when your leathers match the bike.

Black has also been proven to be more visible than colours on the road.
Colours blend into the back ground, hide you, camoflage to cage drivers.
Black is the colour you first see as a bike approches you from a distance.
Black also presents the person wearing it as being bigger than they are, thus ideal for imtimidating stupid cage drivers.
You will get arguments against what I have said, and thats OK.
    We all have our opinions.

BYW this topic is another "why wear black" thread, but thats ok
To be old and wise, first you must be young and stupid.

Black sells. That's a simple fact of life.

You could always browse the ladies section and purchase a beautiful pink outfit?

    +1

or worse still, having gay matching leathers from the bike you sold, clash with the paint job of the new one

black provides better protection from the road than other colours as it is so obviously tougher. If the cool black ninja look offends you try the lime green kawasaki logo jackets to confuse people. its a beautiful colour.

You would prefer to look like a tube of toothpaste?

If you don't like the visibility side of things, wear a fluoro vest.

Not only that, it's self maintaining.
As you slide the black rubs off of the road and coats the leather, waterproofing it and recolouring it for you.
