    Suzuki GP125 - Learners bike?

Hey just looking for some advice on what an 87 Suzuki GP125 would be like on a learners bike? Anything speciafically to have a look at when buying it? have found one at a good price...

or anyone know of any road legal learners bikes for sale <$1000

    Cheers

I used to look after a hire fleet of these, they took a real pounding with no real problems apart from steering head bearings, but I sorted that pretty quick.A good learners bike I reckon.

A good solid little bike, no vices. A good introduction to riding.

And if you hang on to it when you get a bigger bike, you can convert it to a reasonable bucketracer
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

    GP125 was my first bike.

I'm still alive, so they can't be that bad.
And I to my motorcycle parked like the soul of the junkyard. Restored, a bicycle fleshed with power, and tore off. Up Highway 106 continually drunk on the wind in my mouth. Wringing the handlebar for speed, wild to be wreckage forever.

Likewise, my first bike was a GP125... fond memories of revving the shit out of it to get it up to 100km/hr.... lots of handlebar and footpeg vibration!

A good first bike though and if you are only planning on having it for a short time and can get it cheap, probably well worth a look.

Faster than you're legally allowed to go, and for a while faster than your skills to ride it!.

Focus on learning to RIDE WELL , not go fast.

My friend has a Suzuki GP 125 that he uses as a Bucket Racer. He apparently clocked 170kmp/h down the back straight at Pukekohe.

As for a riding course, book in for one of the BRONZ Ride Right Ride Safe courses.

John Wright or Lee Turner to get your Basic Handling. (Assuming you don't have riding experience already, off road or farm etc) .Then do the BRONZ RRRS course. A bargain at only $45. Do a site search on those terms you'll find all the info.

Those 125s are a heap of fun, safe and forgiving when you mess up (as you will, everyone does) and cheap to knock straight abain.

Get the most from it and by the time you're ready for your restricted you'll be ready to trade it in on a 250 /4 or suchlike. AND - be able to ride that properly. Without crashing it !

We're going back a few years now but IIRC my 1980 GP125 had about 15000 on the odometer, so was not totally shagged.

In 1985 I was 5 foot 10-ish, weighed about 75 kgs, and could rest my head on the tank comfortably. It would do 110kmh in 4th, and about 95 in 5th.

    More about them here:
