Anyone out there rebuild disc rotors?

    Hi.
Is anyone familar with a company capable of refurbishing floating front rotors? I have a YZF750r '1993 (Similar to FZR1000) with 320mm floating fronts that have passed their use by date - I am curious if the mounting plate can be retaining and fitted with new (outer) rotors for a reasonable cost.

An option is for nyone out there to part with their 'no longer required' rotors providing they are straight and between 4.5 - 5mm thick

    Cheers, Iain

Yeah, Graeme from Power Motorcycles in Waihi.

Do a search and you should find his number around here somewhere.

can second that. I got a pair of discs off him for a '95 ZX6. $650 for the pair, shipped within a couple of days of me sending off the original discs.

    Email him at: powermotorcycles@hotmail.com

The best disks are cast up usally. You just cant get the same feel and bite from a laser cut chunk of s/steel or what ever. IMHO check out aftermarket cast ones. Pretty sure they are the same pattern as Ducati.

If they are the same as the FZR ones, then yep, the Ducati discs are apparently a direct bolt replacement. And they're better.

Same as most ducati, ie 748, 916 etc, Also same as RSV aprillia.

I rebuilt my YZF -Hey you're using my old Duckman Avitar & you have a YZF, are you trying to BE me? Get the Missus to change her name to Rebecca & dye her hair red.

Anyways, I rebuilt with PFM rotor kits, but those eventually warped, mind you there was that incident with the disc lock[ahem] So I'm running Brembos from an Aprillia. All 2nd hand Yam ones will be warped so go Brembo, or as I did on my RF get some EBCs from Cyclebrakes in US, think I landed them for $650, they might have even marked them a bit cheaper on the docket, maybe I dreamt that but under $500NZ including freight should get them through customs ok.

The next cool thing you can do is fit an R1 calliper setup. 6 times better than the 6 potters.

Its a small world F5 Dave

    Good grief..........
My missus is a red head
    My daughter is Rebecca
    I own/ride a YZF750r
Duckman is (and always will be) my inspiration (after Peter aka Family guy)

If you are into tramping I'll need to question the possibility of clandestine cloning............

Auckland Motorcycles are flicking a set of 2nd hand YZF rotors (4.75mm) for $400 and claim they are straight however the r1 option is appealing. Would they (4 pot calipers) bolt straight on to the leg? Are the offsets (rotors) the same or will I need to make up spacers etc
    Thanks for the info
    Iain

I can also recommend the chap in Waihi. I have some of his cards somewhere so will look and post again when found. He manufactures and if not in stock he can use what you have as a template. I rode over and he fitted the disk (rear) in a half hour and by the time I was back in Akld it was bedded in.

Yam rotors of that gen will just warp again. I’d find some Brembos or buy from a known brand. Hard to get the right material locally.

The R1 rotors won’t fit, just the callipers, but you need to use the R1 master cylinder for best effect & the brake lines will be 90 degrees out. I got some new ones made by Alert in Auckers which have the numbers on the side the WOF guys like.

I’ll try to find the link about the conversion I wrote on another forum.

Tramping?!? No no no, you’ll have to drop that. Dirt bike. That’s what you need, A GasGas to be specific. Google for a local dealer.

Brembo appears the way to go

    Thanks for the links F5Dave
I have spotted some Brembo 320mm discs at Corsa Motorcycles for $275 each - This (it appears) is the best initial option followed by new lines. If the system still feels unresponsive, I will look at the R1 calipers
Bit of a bugger really...The bike does not warrant 1k on the front given its age but hey someone needs to keep the old machines running huh?

groan. Would you believe that was where I got mine?

I've had my bike over 8 years. A while ago I was getting itchy feet & started doing the test ride thing & decided that I wasn't impressed so mine went on a weight loss program, I updated the brakes, spent a k on suspension kits & put a spacer under the rear shock.

Here's sort of what my bike looks like.
