bike battery started our car today

I left the inside light of the car on from yesterday morning, and all night and this morning there werent enough ergs in the battery to turn the car over. bugger.

I didnt think it would work, but decided to give it a go, so pulled the battery out of the hornet, and used the jumper leads, and the car started right up.

surprised me, but there you go.

Bike batteries are pretty grunty these days and are not much smaller than a car battery.The battery in my jump start is smaller tham most bike batteries and will start a diesel truck from dead flat.

My Moto Guzzi battery is actually bigger than the one in the car....

what i would really like to know is why bike batteries are twice the price of car batteries and last 1/2 as long

what are you on, must be bloody good 12 volts is the same what ever battery it comes out of.

the car battery in the guzzi actually worked beter than the bike battery and the starter was the only thing on the guzzi that never gave problems

Dunno, just bought a battery for the triumph and it was $55 (Yuasa) Seemed cheap enough?

The Guzzi one was around $100 for a quality one?

Yes, not many people know this. Likewise, always make sure you use genuine MOTORCYCLE grade sparkplugs only. Using car grade ones, (tempting, because they are cheaper from Repco than the ones from the bike shop) will destroy your engine. Just like using proper motorcycle oil. Using car oil will destroy your clutch. Always check the packet/bottle etc and ensure it has the little motorcycle picture/logo thingy on it.

So is it not safe ta jump start ya bike of a car battery ether? Cause I've had to do that at times. Thought it was safe if the volts were the same. Is the extra amps too much?

A battery aint going to FORCE to much/many amps through your bike! If its the right voltage bobs your uncle

Hey everyone. didja know that you must only ever use bike grade petrol in your bike. Don't use the ordinary petrol that cars use, you'll blow up your carburettors or FI

That's a load of crap! I used lawnmower fuel in my Bantam for years,it ran exactly the same...although I had to fit a pull start before I could get it going....It seemed to make the bike more stable too - I think that's because lawnmowers have 4 wheels.

How do you know it was lawnmower fuel? Did it have a little picture of a lawnmower on the pump? How do you know you weren't using motorcycle petrol in your lawnmower? Anyway, arguably a Bantam is closer to a lawnmower than a motorcycle
