Cheers Big Dave. As I've found it is a business, I will go in person, I do polite real good. I've already got the quote from the bike shop. Unfortunately I do not have the witness name, but they do not know that. I'll try to appeal to the honor of the person I end up dealing with...heres hoping.

As an aside. I'm constantly amazed at the power of this online community. I try to add value where I can, but in the last 2 weeks I've been helped by some really awesome people. as I said, I'm just blown away. Thanks one and all for all the help and support.

Well were all waiting with baited breath to find out how you went. I recond people don't have the same respect for other peoples stuff anymore. Have had my cage hit while parked a couple of times in my life and it sucks! No details left either. Kinda restores your faith in human nature that someone thought to take down the plate number eh?

I'm not going to give him a reason to complain. I'll not get nasty or agro for the sake of a indicator. I'll play the good cop I promise!

Oh no! Didnt mean it like that. Was just letting people know that there inquiries are not as anonymous as they would think...
I really hope you get it sorted the guy deserves to be confronted! My workmate had his bike backed over by a truck last week and the company that employs the driver are dicking him around no end, so I hope things work out for you! Good luck!

Cowpoos the bastard, told me there is a open practice day at manfield tomorrow. So I've decided to pull out the stops and get the new bits I just got installed in the 750 and get my arse down to manfield, which is conveniently positioned near the company that owns the vehicle in question.

I have a suspicion (dream?) that it will go something like this, I'll walk into their office and a scantily clad receptionist will look over at me and say, Heeeey, is that a indicator in your pocket or are you just pleased to see me? To which I'll reply "your right on both counts, that is indeed an indicator that I am pleased to see you" opps wrong dream!

Will prolly go more like this one (I hope)... I'll walk in and tell the receptionist in a cool calm and collect way that their vehicle was seen by a witness to have backed into my bike breaking the indicator. She will say, that must have been naughty Bob, he was driving it at that time, right on queue naughty Bob will walk in and say, "sorry mate, I did not see your discreet bright green, white and blue bike, sorry about that" and then proceed to write out a check for the amount that is stated on the quote that I'll show them from the shop. ('Ill prob "accidently" also pull out the police complaint form I picked up yesterday as well. Just a dream? we shall see.

As an IT person, it seems to me that this would be the case. To add a trigger on the that table to record requests would be quite elementary. You'll have a login of some description GB that gives you access to that database, that login will be recorded. Of course if that login is shared across multiple users then the granularity of logging is diluted, but it's fairly minor detective work to figure out who dunnit.

My daughter had her car backed into in Gisb this week, but the bloke left his number on her screen and when contacted was happy to pay for the damage - there is still some decent people out there

However if GB (or whoever) is asked to provide details of a vehicle and does so, having no reason to suppose that anything illegal is intended, then it is hard to see what offence is committed (apart perhaps from an internal matter if the looker-up is not supposed to do so for outsiders).

The details on the register are a matter of public record, there is nothing at all improper about anyone requesting them. that is why you can do it through the post office.

Of course if hypothetical anyone does supply the details and the subject gets the bash, anyone may have to cough up to the plod who he gave them to . But , unless anyone knew in advance that the bash was intended (or could reasonably be expected to infer it) he is OK - apart maybe from internal issues.

After all, if "anyone" walked into the Post Office and got the details, and went round and gave the bash, would we say that the Post Office clerk was in the shit for supplying them?

It is perfectly possible that 'anyone"wishes to obtain the name and address so he can send a polite letter . As the OP here intends to do. Right.

There is much hypocritical bleating about this issue. I fail to see any reason why the identity of the registered owner of a vehicle should NOT be a matter of public record. The vehicle is used on the puiblic roads. Why should the operator be allowed to operate behind a cloak of anonymity .

Trucking firms have found that driver behaviouir is much improved when the name of the driver, and a contact phone number are painted on the lorry.
