The Rimutakas has NEVER been about the motorcycle, it is a pure riders road.

'lazy7', are you saying something about my skills as a rider?.if so come straight out and say it?????
i dont admit to being the best rider, cause im not. but i know how far to comfortably push my bike, and if you ask the guys i have ridden with, i dont try and be at the front where im pushing past my capability. but rather normally at the back, riding at my own pace.
As your original post was referring to standing and flying quarter mile runs, I have no doubt that you can screw every last pony any mass produced production bike has on offer with your current skill sets.
That being the case, make it the Kawasaki ZX14.

It's better to not pass and know that you could have than to pass and find out that you can't. Wait for the straight.

I try too. i love my bike and it is more than enough for me around hills and corners. but on the straights, i feel like i absoutely wring it out as much as i can and still want to accelerate it quicker and for standing and quater mile i know it will not be fast enough, as much as i love my bike
    thank you for the help

Had a number of 750's now, and I know I'm faster on the thou. And like I said having a 150hp bike means you have a meaty midrange, oh how I love that midrange. Don't get that on a 750, and most certainly not on a 600. Even though my bike would hardly ever see 11,000rpm while cranked over in 1st or 2nd gear on the road, I know I would be hard pressed to go back to a 750, don't think I would ever consider a 600. Just love the way it delivers the power.

Another point is until I rode a thou I used to think they were too much for the road. Now that I own one that line of thought has gone straight out the window.

I feel some people in this thread are missing the point of a big bore bike, Well One Armed Bandit has a good handle on it me thinks.

There is something VERY intoxicating about the sheer midrange torque as they surge ahead on just a whiff of throttle. (600 riders, till you ride one, shut up) You do not have to ring the last few % out of a big bore to enjoy it. It is not about the outright speed as much as the FEELING it gives.
Big Bore Bikes are pussy cats anyways, it is only when you try to get the last 10% performance (and I mean that in every sense of the word, as in handling, corners, power at the same time) out of them on the track, and prolly 20% on the road that they turn into tigers with claws.
Now that just happens to be the zone I like to play with my big bore kittys, it does not mean that every big bore rider has to explore those outer limits to enjoy riding one.
In short, it's the feeling they give at all times, not just at the edge of their performance capabilities that count. Capiche?
(BTW, my ZX9R has a muzzy 998 big bore kit in it, and man is it so much more fun now!!!)

For the record, I ride my old 1989 ZXR750 postie bike on the road, and just love that too! (any modern 600 will trounce it!)
But come time to do that Cliff Hanger hill climb in the Waiarapa the other month, which bike do you think I pulled out to use from the Green fleet?
Yep, the superbike, and boy did I have fun thrashing it, I topped it out in top gear in 2 sections including a series of flip flops, what was that about never being able to explore the outer limits of a big bore? Trust me, they are easier to give a hiding on a quiet open country road than your average NZ racetrack!

okay i think i can somewhat speak on this subject, in the family fleet, we have gsxr 600, gsxr 1000, gsxr 1300.

Riden them all, each are awsome bikes, and designed for simlar, I love riding my 600 most of all, i got a 600 since personally i like smaller bikes (previous was a 96 gsxr1100) but the busa is a hell of a fun bike to ride. it just has massive grunt, everywhere, and still handle pretty much whatever anyone can throw at it. Were the 1000 is stuck in the middle, of the two. in terms of weight, power etc etc. The busa owner, riden my bike a few times, and likes it on track, but open road much perfers his 1300.

Each of us are different, ride different, corner different etc etc, different tastes. Other wise everyone would ride the same thing, and now much fun that would be(not).

We buy bikes for what the style we want to do, drag racing, straight line you are after a big bore bike, zx14, zx12, busa etc. due to massive grunt. and the like.

JWALKER, like i said first off, go look at zx14r, zx12r, or busa, buy which ever one gives you the biggest boner, and go from there, for the pick of the bunch at this point in time is a zx14r(short on the ground in the country at moment as in stock numbers to buy). But any of these motors will be cabable of unleashing alot more hp, to get quick times on the strip

If you've got power, you don't need to use all of it... you'll find the controller in your right hand.
Having said that, I like to keep the revs up, blipping the throttle through downchanges, and engine howling out of the corners. 1000cc+ bikes need to be ridden with more respect than that... or it will bite the unwary.
    Each to their own style.
    Keep it rubber-side down...

What JWALKER is looking for is speed in a straight line. Not worried about power out of corners ect, he wants full on power from stop to redline.
To every man upon this earth
    Death cometh sooner or late
And how can a man die better
    Than facing fearful odds
For the ashes of his fathers
And the temples of his Gods

Sniper is right and i appreciate everyone's advice on it, thank you.
I am looking for something with reasonable handling, but mainly as fast as possible in a straight line, not neccesarily top end, but in accelartion
