Wow, lotta angst against what is arguably the best attempt at online motorcycle accessory shopping in NZ.

Websites are expensive... between building the database, building the web front end, and a decent administration section that allows for updating the catalogue with ease, credit card payment system, testing, it'd take me about 200-300 hours to build something like that from scratch. That's $16-24k, a big investment for any small business.

The screen size thing, it does appear to be built to a funny width, and even today it's bit off not to cater for an 800x600 screen. Having said that, 800x600 is horrible and you should upgrade asap.

The images... bit of a pet hate of mine is large pictures that in fact are not. The large pictures aren't all perfect, but they're not too bad. The owners will have to pay for the bandwidth, so the quality of those pictures is always a tradeoff... I've seen worse (much much worse).Bikesport.co.nz is missing pictures in placs, and that's even worse imho.

The layout isn't total arse, but browsing for categories isn't as easy as it could be. Text is still the win in many cases.

Catalogue contents, I think it's fair to assume that it's a work in progress, and there's more to come.

    Just my opinion of course.

has been online for much longer than a year,a bloody good site, heaps of products, reward points and quick delivery - they have given me great service....but sometimes I like to look at things in the flesh. The Motomail site looks good, maybe better than their new store because I've never seen it.What a dumb move - it takes more than a bike shop to get me into the city centre....I've only been up College Hill once since they moved and didn't see it.That area is not on my to do list ever. But I still go to the old shop, plenty of bargins there....that always gets me back.

I'm even dirtier than he is. And I'm cheaper. He goes to the Motomail outlet store looking for bargains. Spendthrift. Wanton extravagance. I just make the previous bargains last a bit longer. You could ask me out .

    Kudos to Motomail.

First time I've ordered online bike stuff.
And since I'm a returning road rider after 6 years, I needed all kinds of bits and pieces, gloves/jacket/bike stuff etc.
Ordered some things on Sunday night, Monday, they all arrived today, in good order.
A jacket I ordered was'nt in stock so they offered a refund/another jacket/or wait a week or so till stocks arrived.
I'll wait the week as I'm not medically cleared for the bike yet for 3 more months, so no big deal.
Might just have to try a quick blast up the road this weekend maybe.

Well done MM, I'll be back!

Thats why you buy a pre-built "e-commerce" site and teach your staff-plebs how to upload items and images.

They're often a less than ideal fit for the business. Most of those require (including CSS and design/image work) about a weeks effort minimum to bring them up to scratch before the staff could maintain them, which is still a few thousand dollars.

    Big-ups to Motomail.
Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.
