I'll probably get some red rep for this too, but mate, you've got no licence and more than 100 demerits. You ain't got a leg to stand on. If you were a cager we would have hauled you over the coals by now.

Sorry, just the way I see it.

bummer. You sorted with picking up your bike. I'll be home around 5pm if you want I can whip up the road and pick it up. ring or txt me on 027 325 0 353 if you still require help. You want to file a police report too. Don't worry about no licence but dont mention speeding. Hopefully you werent passing on a yellow line because the others insurance is going to come chasing you for the money to fix their car. Guarentee it.

Sorry to hear Klown. I hope your injuries are only minor. Hope you had insurance on your bike too. If you have contents insurance, be sure to claim back your riding outfit.

I don't know what it is about some Cage drivers.
Why they start playing the idiot because they see a bike coming up on them.
I understand boy racers - They're normally not too mentally bright anyway.
But mature adults? You'd think they'd know better.

Why don't you post their details here for us and we can all write them a letter, or better yet, start up a forum and then print it out and send it to them.

Can anybody tell me how come, whenever I'm on my Gixxer Thou, I find some idiot on the motorway who wants to drag me or sit right on my tail?
Maybe coz my bike is so small, it looks like a 250.
Ah well, I'm not actually complaining, coz I get my kicks from it!

ok. to be fair. Why do kb'ers have such a negative attitude towards cars? I know Klown. I've ridden with him. Really nice guy but lets look at the facts as we know them so far.

Klown took his bike out with no licence. Bad decision.
Klown overtook on a corner. Bad decision.
Klown admitted to speeding. Bad decision.
Klown overtook on the gorge. Bad decision.

And yet everyone is jumping on the car for hitting him. You can still think someone is a nice guy while thinking they have made some bad decisions can you not?

Haven't been thru the gorge for a while, but last time I seem to remember double yellows right thru and an 80kph limit?? If so, the people-crusher was speeding too.
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

HE GOT HIT... he didn't aim at the suv... the suv CUT the corner!
And I have to disagree with you!
    1. Having NO licence does not mean you cannot ride - it just means you should not be on the road - he admitted he had lost his licence through getting too many demerit points - so he obviously was considered to NOT be a good rider by the law.
    2. Thinking you can overtake safely is one thing - overtaking at 100-120kph in the gorge when the speed limit is 80kph and there are double yellow lines all through it is another.
    3. Big deal, speed alone wasn't the only factor in his crash.
    4. You are a hero, we all bow down before you. A van! You ARE the man...

And by the sound of it, he didn't so much as get hit as end up colliding with a vehicle he was overtaking. Whether the guy cut the corner or not is totally irrelevant - there's no law against cutting corners but there are laws about overtaking on double yellow lines!

I used to ride an RG150 myself so I know what they are and aren't capable of. Sounds like he needs to stop and take a good look at how and why this crash happened and make sure it doesn't happen again. I'd imagine if the driver took the time to pass on his details he most likely took down the bike's rego so a visit from the police is highly likely. I'd be interested to hear how he thinks he can claim it was all the driver's fault.

Sorry, but this is a case of "I fucked up and I paid the price for it". Don't expect any sympathy because I'm afraid I'm not on your side with this one.
Yes, I am pedantic about spelling and grammar so get used to it!

Valid points, though perhaps just a little harsh?

Demerit points don't really have any relevance to competance , or attitude. The safest, most skilled rider on the road could accumulate 100 in a few weeks just being in the wrong place at the wrong time. They're a lottery and that's all that can be said about them.

A few years ago I would have agreed with you about the unwisdom of overtaking on double yellows, but since the insane yellow line maniac has been so busy painting them on every bit of NZ roads, they have completely lost their meaning and relevance. One simply has to ignore them nowdays.

I don't think the speed is particulalry relevant. 50% on top of any speed limit is usually safe enough, and overtaking a plonker doing 70 you'd pretty much have to wind out to 100 or so. Can't overtke unless you're going faster than he is.

If you think about the line that a bike would take overtaking on a right hander and then returning to the correct side of the road, it's going to be crossing the starboard bow of the USV, and with the rider unsighted. If said SUV decides to put his foot down through the corner to teach young idiot on motorbike a lesson (as they do, as they do), then you pretty much have it.

So my commiserations Mr Klown. Karma came and bit you, you must have stepped on an earthworm in a previous incarnation. But in life you make your
choices and if they go bad you take the consequences. Some of the choices you made were maybe not those that you'd pick with the benefits of hindsight. As you have said . Why I'm always careful where I put my feet when walking, I've made too many stupid choices m'self to risk Earthwormly Wrath.

Best that you can hope for I fear is that Mr Plonker either doesn't report it, or the police file it without investigation. If his vehicle was damaged though his insurance company may be a problem.

Hope it works out for you.

Try that in front of a cop some time, or myself. Then try and argue that there's no law when myself or the cop has knocked you on your arse.

Would people give up arguing "facts" that they're guessing. The only person with the information here is KLOWN.

Not having a licence doesn't absolve the other driver for (what we've been told) causing an accident. They are two seperate things.

KLOWN, if you're sure of the circumstances, that you were in the "right" as far as speed and a safe passing location goes, then by all means, talk to the cops, but you need to weigh up the benefit vs them kicking your ass for riding without a licence.
