Hey, heres an idea why dont you stop riding on a sunday with ya mates (im assuming you have 1 or 2?) and start riding in the week days by yourself. That way when you stop for a coffee you can talk to yourself as much as you like. I remember it wasnt that long ago when NO shops opened on the weekend, yes Sat AND Sun at all. Good god how did we cope?!

Just a thought, but if servo station workers also wanted the weekend off, there'd be little riding done in the weekends. Half a tank out, half a tank back - assuming you remembered to fiull it brim full on Friday night. Lucky the gas station guys don't mind working weekends, eh?

Yep, you definately have a point there. I remember those days well from when I worked as a chef and in retail. But what im guessing that most reatail shops dont employ shift workers. Servo station guys work on a rotating roster system (im assuming) and they only work a total of xx days a week, which normally only adds up to 5 days. Shops will have people working Mon through to Sat which is 6 days....

We opened on Sunday for about 3-4months, the cost of opening and wages for the satff who were there cost more than we made!
Was a waste of time.

Working on Sunday does suck but the reality is that the weekend are the two biggest retail days of the week - ask any used car salesperson. There's nothing wrong with it.
The problem with Wellington bike shops is not really the number of them (more or less wouldn't matter too much) it's just the service. Service seems to be grossly under-rated. Lou and Sarge (sorry to drag you in here guys) are examples of sales staff who go the extra mile for their customers (from what I've been told) but they seem to reap the reward for that service. No, I don't believe (having been in sales at one point) that you have to be a simpering suck up, just provide good service.

Of course there is. But to have customers you (and all the staff) have to provide service. Something *most* bike shops don't seem to understand. Unless you're a 'buddy'...

The problem we have is not so much the lack of shops but the fact they seem short of stock of all sorts. Try buying a metre roll of scuff proof for instance - I tried that a few months back - Boyz Toyz was a joke, Motomart had nothing except small rolls so had to go in to Sawyers. I can understand the issue is the cost of stock holding, but its hard choosing accessories and the like if you can't see it in front of your eyes. Do we need a Motomail or something more like that with a decent sized showroom of accessories?
I don't worry about service too much because I do all my own servicing.

Best bet would be to open a bike shop in Martinborough.
You could open just on the weekend and have the week off, you'd pretty much capture the Wgtn market and I'd have a new excuse to go for a ride..."I'm just popping out to the bike shop to pick up that headlight bulb, be back in a couple of hours"
