Hey thanks for the post BuRnS and welcome. It's been an interesting thread. Thought it might have turned ugly there for a while but no! Thanks for playing nice folks.

Only if you suck. It saddens me no end when I see people on full-license-needing machines who don't have proper low speed control; doing pathetic duck-walks and keeping their feet down as some kind of bizarre outrigger system under 10k.Originally Posted by Jantar

Welcome to KB BuRnS.
Love this thread. Being one that grew up before helmets became compulsory and we thought nothing of riding down the road to dry our hair after a shower, or raced around dirt tracks with next to nothing on, I found all this quite funny.

I will repeat. Its much easier to lose balance and control at low speed than it is at high speed. This is a simple matter of physics, and as someone who has ridden trials (which is real low speed stuff) I can talk from experience.Originally Posted by Jamezo
There are many bikes out there that cannot be ridden at less than 10 kmh. My ex GS1200SS for example has a minimum speed at idle in 1st gear of 14 kmh. Now just do the math yourself and work out what the minimum controllable speed for a 280 kg bike/rider combination on 17 in wheels just happens to be.
Now see if you can explain why many large bikes appear to fall over for no reason at speeds less than 15 kmh.
However one point you make I will agree with. Duck walking a bike is pointless. If you lose it with a large bike at 10 kmh there is no way that having a foot down will save it.
Time to ride
A funny thread...![]()
And to think that when i am working on my bikes and want to take it for a 5 second test ride up and down the road i do not wear a helmet...oh the shame! I reckon good on ya for trying o do something different. Just wear ya gear when you normally ride.

im with bret, its pretty obvious he wasnt gonna be doing anything stupid, the only thing that was gonna be showing off was showing up on the bike.Originally Posted by Brett

When i was getting my ZXR ready for the road (not rego'd or wof's, just getting the engine to go properly) i would take it up and down the street to test various things, best time was when i was told off my an old guy doing roadworks at the bottom of the street, i was in t-shirt and shorts, he says "your not alowed on that, you arent wearing a helmet" my reply was, "im not wearing shoes either, do you think i care?"

Actually, just about every REALLY stupid thing I've ever done has started out with me saying "I'm not going to do anything stupid now" . Or, "Yes, dear, I'll be careful".

Mind you, if he reads this thread, which is quite possible... since he made such a massivemistake and gave ya a warning, he'll probably be out lookin for ya, since you're so thankful and all...
lucky he didn't give you a ticket for breaching your licence
