Thread: Tree ate my bike.....

  1. #16
I hadn't seen it,on this site or any other...and I had an XS650 for 15 years,so keep my eye out for them. The photo was actualy given to me and I scanned it,which is why the quality is so poor. The photo was done on a printer,so I was pretty sure it came off the net somewhere.I don't like reposts, but we can't read every post....not even me.

I have seen a pine tree that grew on the roof of a small outbuilding, then the roots reached the ground and made a sort of cage around the shed. This was at the old limeworks in Warkworth if anyone remembers those days.

Riding back from Whangarei about forty years ago. Did not make a corner at the top of the Brynderwyn hill. (The road was quite diffirent then)
I landed down a hill in a paddock. I looked around - no sign of the bike. After a while I looked back towards the road. There was my bike on top of a tree at road level.
I had to chop it down to get my bike back.
What else would you expect a Triumph thunder bird to do??

DougB that had to be a hilarious sight! It's a pity you didn't have a piccy of it - but I guess you wanted to get your ride back ASAP! Were you able to ride it after doing the lumberjack thing? ... amazing you weren't in the tree and the bike in the paddock heh!

It's in the tropics by the look oof the vegetation,so not as long as you think - the rest of the bike looks in pretty good shape.I've seen several bikes on farms where they have just been left to rot standing out the back of a barn or in a padock.

Wouldnt the chrome even more rusty if it was in the tropics?

The XS650 had onboard rust preventive mechanisms, similar to what the British used on their vertical twins, but of course much more refined on the quality Japanese bike.

Stories of trees growing around things aside, has anyone considered that Photoshop may have been involved here?
