I Wave, even to scooters, there I said it!
Oh yeah, got to say this too, yesterday I come to a rail crossing with the lights flashing and arms down, I spot a black ZX10R identicle to the one I'm on, it was a long goods train with lots of those empty low carriges, and this guy like, looks every where except at me, it reminded me of 2 women arriving to a party wearing the same dress

If I saw a guy waving shit I'd probably think he was ghey too.

I have always waved at all fellow bikers over the years, especially whilst on the open road and touring. Its been very rare not to get a response and I do it because I am enjoying my ride and the road is clear and I know how much the other riders are possibly enjoying themselves. Of course if its a beauiful fine calm day the ride is much more enjoyable and riders tend to be in a better mood. On those terrible wet windy days I tend to keep my hands on the bars. As I only tour whilst on holidays I am already in a great mood which helps.

At the end of the day, road bikers are only a small percentage of the MV users so the wave to me is the adknowledgement of our shared love of motorcycling and I can't see anything wrong in that. I think oldrider was right re it goes back to the days when you could be touring and barely see another bike thirty years ago.

I am having a problem with my cookie setting hence double entry

I'm old enough to remember when all riders waved. We probably all knew each other anyway.

In those days life was relatively uncomplicated, we almost all had Brit bikes.
I do remember one BMW but it was a bit ummm odd. There may have even been a Jawa but nobody much envied the rider as I recall. In those days nobody was compensating for their personal insecurities by investing in a Harley, Ducati, BMW, MV, or whatever

You could leave your helmet by your bike without ever considering it might be stolen. (Although this could also be a comment on the helmet hygene standards of the day...)

We may have lost the universal wave, but along with the far greater diversity of bikes now available we have a greater diversity of riders/owners which all adds to the interest. I added the word "owner" there because of the recent phenomenon where people buy a bike [usually a Harley] just to park it in their garage. It takes all sorts...

Still, it is nice to get a response to a wave when on a trip.
And I really don't have anything against Harleys, I just don't think I'm old enough to own one yet.

I would love to own a HD just to take one on a long cruise. I have ridden all sorts of bikes the last 35 years but never a HD and to me they are beauiful works of art as well. In saying that, I have to also say that for my needs, long distance travel to get to North Auckland, nothing has worked better for me than big Jap four cylinder sports tourers. They have the comfort and power that my singles and twins didnt over the years. I even rode a SR500 Yamie from Wellington to North Cape and back one year. What a job that was with a pack and into a head wind the first day. She is still one of my fravourite bikes of all times though.
