The cuntstable and senior sargent that we dealt with said that it doesnt matter what the pedestrian is doing or where on the road they are if they are hit by a vehicle the driver is always in the wrong.......you guys can say what you like but my wife has the conviction to prove it

Perhaps you should have stopped and explained the lady that her suicidal tendency is not a good reason for unwarranted jailtime for somebody else.
Or as they post on Air Force bases: "please, exercise caution when crossing the runway - expensive fighter plane may suffer damage in a collision".
"People are stupid ... almost anyone will believe almost anything. Because people are stupid, they will believe a lie because they want to believe it's true, or because they are afraid it might be true. People's heads are full of knowledge, facts, and beliefs, and most of it is false, yet they think it all true ... they can only rarely tell the difference between a lie and the truth, and yet they are confident they can, and so all are easier to fool." -- Wizard's First Rule

    The law

LAND TRANSPORT (OFFENCES AND PENALTIES) REGULATIONS 1999

    11.1(1) Pedestrian fails to 35 - - -
    remain on footpath
    11.4(1) Pedestrian/rider of 35 - - -
    mobility device/wheeled
    recreational device fails
    to cross road at right
    angle to roadway
    11.5 Pedestrian/rider of 35 - - -
    mobility device/wheeled
    recreational device on
    pedestrian crossing fails
    to give vehicle time to
    give way
    I like 11.1(1)

    11.4(1) is jaywalking

Mind you I doubt anyone has ever been given a ticket for any of these

When I tooted at her for having to make an emergency stop, she gave me a nasty glare and made a signal that seemed to say I should have ridden around her. This really wasn't an option, as I had no idea whether she was going to keep sauntering across, or see me and stop halfway.
Whelp, I'll tell you my personal experience.
I'm sitting at the traffic lights, two lanes each way, and it's about to go green. A gaggle of pedestrians are crossing, illegally, on the other side of the intersection.
The light goes green, I take off, slowly, and when I get closer to the pedestrians, tootle them melodiously. All but one of them scuttle back to the safety of the kerb/curb/kerb/footpath. I watch the lone pedstrian, now in the middle of the road, still headed for the other shore.
I decide to swerve, and go around behind her.
Just as I got close to her, she stopped, and turned 180 degrees, but to her left, so she was facing away from me the whole time. I braked, and she stepped smack-dab right into my path. I hit her leg with the front wheeel, bowling her over, and of course now my bike has lost steering, and I hit the deck.
Her leg was broken in two places, and she spent a week in hospital and had to pay ~$3000 for my bike damages.

    What do I think?
Be very, very, wary around pedestrians, as they are unpredictable, dangerously so.
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....

It's even more fun if they are crossing when the little man is red and you are on green light, (so they know they are in the wrong) rev the bike a bit to make it seem like you are going speed up and run them over, blast the horn and watch them turn their "I don't care" saunter into a "shit I'm going to get run over" scurry. Especially the snotty tarts in high heels.
