Worst luck ever?

Hello everyone

I recently returned from 2 years in the UK and decided to get my bike back on the road, I took the 1984 honda MB100 for a warrant and it failed on breaks, bent gear pedal, and off road tires. so I fixed the breaks and straighted the gear pedal then took the bike to my local motorbike shop and got them to put the original tires back on. I picked the bike up later that day and took it for its final inspection and all the work I had done was ok so got my new 2007 sticker and cruised back to my place but on the way I noticed I had left my indicator on and the light on the speedo was duller than normal so thats why I didnt notice.
I arrived home and did a light check and noticed my break light works fine but the right indicators are barely visible and the speedo light and the netural light blew and I noticed the left indicator is blinking a couple of times then sticking on. I'm guessing the guy messed up some of the wiring when he was taking the speedo reader cable out of the speedo box. How unlucky am I!! The mighty mb100 was ready to go in this nice weekend weather and now shes useless.

I had a look inside the speedo box and all the connections looked ok to me but I know nothing about bikes let alone bike electrics. can anyone help me out? what are the laws regarding riding a bike without indicators to an auto electrician?

sounds like a short to me........check the fuses....cant see you will have any problems rideing it down to the bike shop....book it in and go..if you get pulled over tell the cop whats wrong and were your going..if he dosent believe you the shop can verify its booked in.

I had a little ride on it today using hand signals instead of indicators and also pulled the thing apart and had a look at all the connections, even drew up a diagram of the wiring. I noticed that from left to right the lights get weaker with the rear left indicator being the weakest, the battery has been lying around for 2 years so I'm told its dead and have ordered another one, It looks like the battery liquid level is low. and this may sound like a stupid question but I know absolutly nothing about bikes, what oil do I put directly into the engine and how much? 10W40 or the 2 stroke oil I put in my tank?

your manual should tell you. you say you put 2 strok in the tank? if im thinkin right, there shouldnt be a need for any other kind of oil? i put 4 stroke castrol in mine, and that goes in the oil part at the bottom of the engine...no 2 stroke oil or anything like that.

gearbox oil and 2t oil..... rgv takes 2t oil in the back and still has an oil thing on the motor to fill... is probably 10w40 that u want, but check, might be 15w40

Pretty sure you don't need indicators on a bike. As long as you're able to signal with your hands you're fine. Don't quote me on that though.

Best not, You need indicators if the bike is post 1978 unless it's one of the specified exempt models (mainly off road , trials type things). But your indicator problems are almost certainly due to your stuffed battery, Replace battery, they'll prolly be good to go.

Have you had a look at supercheap auto. They have quite a range of small batteries. 12 volt and 6 volt.

I dont claim to be a bike mech, but if ya want a hand with anything, I know my way around a spanner pretty well.

Oh and i trust that if anything was damaged in the work you had done on your bike, it would have been sheer accidental. Phil and tony the mechanics are very very good workers!!!!

hey mate
stopped in the bike shop 2day to get my battery, they were really helpfull installed my new batt for me and told me reason for dull indicators is because the earths have rusted, the dude showed me with another earth wire that when it was making good contact the little 6watt light light up brighter.
better get sanding down those grounding points......
getting the hang of riding now at least it doesnt seem that everyone is trying to kill me anymore lol
