    Who remembers..where is...???

    My first proper thread...........

I thought I would risk asking these questions cos the latest poll indicates about a third of us are old farts...... (imagine that)

and I know that some of the

"I never got caught with an L plate"

are our age, just late starters.......

I remember, in no particular order........the Marlboro Series....Pukekohe, burning hot weather, the smell of R2 yummm, Greg Hansford wheelstanding the length of the front straight, girls with the sponsors product carried on trays offering up smokes to anyone who wandered past them

Street racing around the site of Manukau Shopping Centre....wow! no wonder I love Paeroa... (the pits my fav after race place to be )

Roger Freeth, serious, spectacle wearing fearless racer.....sadly gone..
Saw Graeme Crosby on TV the other night...he was hero of mine..
    Robert Holden...

I have to admit my "old fart" memory has some gaps....as well as the famous names........what happened to Robbie Deans, he had a Suzuki dealership in Tauranga and raced back in my day...there are more but think I will leave it to you guys to help me out....

    I remember all that too.
Happiness was smoking the free ciggies while watching Greg Hansford and Pat Hennan do battle.

    Crosby

Graeme Crosby won the Daytona 200 and the Imola 200 in the same year, Agostini is the only other rider to achieve this. Crosby is also the only rider ever to win the Daytona 200, Imola 200, Suzuka 8 hour and IOM TT.

I saw Cros on TV the other night. God, he looks old - he is old - does this mean I am old too?

Eh? You still can? Can't you? I did the other week, anyway. Rather ride up it than ride down it, t'be honest, that left hander at the bottom where the tree roots have pushed up the roadway is nasty

He's still in Tauranga, retired from racing (crashing!!) and struggling to keep some sort of business going (one only gets to pull so many dirty deals before the reputation catches up...). He sure was entertaining around Bay Park, though!

He was entertaining at New Lynn too! I was at the bottom of Astley Ave and he would change into top on the Commando over a bump and the front wheel would be in the air....then when he braked for the corner into Clark St he'd have to stand on the pegs so he didn't get thrown off as the bike shaked like crazy under him.It was a wild ride and the crowd cheered him every lap.

A careful search of the brain cell found that I was alive then and have some faint memories of most of this. I have this fear the thread will rapidly turn into one of those "the older I get the faster I was" ravings which will haunt us forever so I'm not saying much.

So, who's going to the post classic racing at Taupo this weekend?

You trying to say that your old RD250 couldn't crack 150mph????

Going to Taupo is Plan A for me.
