    GS1200ss is a better Bike than it looks

    I really hated selling my 1999 GSXR1100 to buy a house and down grade to a cheaper bike, the GS1200ss.

    Up until now I have only had a few short burst on the GS and have thought it was pretty ho hum.

    Today I had to drop down to Invercargill, from Dunedin and back again, leaving at about 5pm. So I thought what the hell I will take the bike for a run.

    I am converted, The GS has a much more comfortable riding position over a long haul and my knees last another 2 hours, over the GSX, before they give me shit.

    The GS just hums over the distance and doesn't miss a beat. It has all the get up and go I need and has enough top end to be dangerous. It has a better light setup, so better visibility at night.

    So all in all a happy scotter boy
    I feel like I'm diagonally parked in a parallel universe.

    So you have just learnt the real facts. It almost impossible to explain the benefits of the GS to those who have never tried a long ride on one. I would have loved to be able to keep my old one and buy the VStrom as well.

    Sorry I didn'rt take any notice at all as it was a trip where I just had to get down and back so didn't take any notice of the nicities. I have a gut feeling it is hungrier than my old GSXR. It has a slightly bigger tank but I am picking about the same range

    I used to get 16 - 17 km/l when commuting, and 18 - 20 km/l on a trip.

    those things have the Bandit 1200 engine in them.. i think they are geared differently for more low/mid range

    as long as Lou's HP eating gremlin dont get bored with his bike and decide to fly south...

    those bikes were only sold in NZ and Japan domestic markets .. they are pretty much a Crosby Tribute machine, based on his early 80's ride , back before he pissed Suzuki off..

    gotta love the Old School looks on those things ..

    Had a bandit and it had a great engine that is also easy to get more HP out of.
    If you love it, let it go. If it comes back to you, you've just high-sided!

    Ive done quite a bit of work on it...

    36 mm C.V Flat slide Mikunis & K&N Filters (No air box)

    GSX-R 1100 K camshafts

    GSX 1100 FJ Igniter (10.500k r.p.m limiter)

    Yoshi RS-3 Muffler & link pipe

    Putting 128hp through the back wheel (Dyno sheets to back up...)

    Near new Metzelers

    Good service history...

    The GS has 32mm carbs instead of the Bandits 36mm, but the same things apply.
    Fit an after market can, set the carbs up properly, open up the airbox and you'll get an easy 15 - 20hp.

    I quite liked the look of those but the twin shocks put me off. They were giving them away new a couple of years ago.
    I love the smell of twin V16's in the morning..
