    Rego on hold

Some time ago, when $$ were in short supply and with winter coming up, I put the rego on my bike on hold for three months. Now that the weather is warmer, and has been for a few weeks here, I wanted to renew my rego. Kind lady at the local Post Shop said that if I reregistered it before the three months is up, I would have to pay the rego for the time it was on hold. Huh?? I have to pay for rego on time past! Its not like I can rewind the clock/calender and use my bike in July and August is it?

It seems like blatant revenue gathering to me... any ideas? Has anyone else had the same problem? Is there any way around this?

The whole rego thing is revenue gathering. It is rediculous the ammount of dollars we pay each year just so they know where to send the speed camera tickets.

Yes, that is the way it is, and I know of no way round it. Just use it unregistered until the 3 months is up. Bloody leeches

No way around it, it does mention this on the forms, but then I never read them either, I have at times put rego on hold, but only when I am sure I am not going to run into this problem, otherwise just pay the bloodsuckers.

yuh shorter than 3 months= pointles...
Don't know if it works for bikes, but, I've currently go tmy Peugeot 205gti registered under "class A exempt" which means you only pay the registration component of the fee (bout $35 for 6months on a car)
It's a 'repair' rego. which means you can only use the vehicle on the road between getting repairs, modifications, and getting a wof, pretty much. carries a bit of a fine I'm told, if you're caught outside those juristictions.
    Worht researching, perhaps?

hhmmmmm..I have several bikes on hold and was told that i could do so for any length of time and that i would only pay rego in arreas if I was to re-rego within one month of putting it on hold....ie If I put it on hold for 6 mths & re regd after only 3 mths then no probs....
    Look into it further.

And why is it that when you re-register your vehicle you have to pay for the time between your registration running out and the time of re-registration,
    but,
If you get caught on the road with no registration you can't simply say to the cop that you will get it done when you can....because you have to pay for the intervening time anyway!!!

If you paid your registration on time that wouldn't be a problem.

Some people here seem to have a tendency to complain about absolutely everything.

Unfortunately its the law, if you put your rego on hold you have to wait till the 3 months is up before you can reregister unless as you found out you backdate the payment. You'll also find out that you cant go in a couple of days or a week before the 3 months is up without paying the 3 month backdate. I found that out after I had mine on hold for 3 months over winter and thought I'd go and pay early as the computer tells them your trying to rereg before the time is up = 3 months arrears. Even if the rego falls on a sunday you cant go in on Friday and pay (at least I couldnt). Sucks ay.

Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?
