Don't you mean, keep up with the MZ's disguised as Suzuki's thanks to Ernst Degner's defection to the West in 1961 ...... of course the new found HP was handy for Hugh Anderson.

Not too many years ago Honda didn't produce ANY two strokes, they were never a 2 stroke producer and only made them to keep competitive. Now through regulations 4 strokes are competitive they can drop the evil 2 stroke.

And WHAT sounds..........even the 2 strokes didnt sound that bad - paticularly the little Yamaha 125 V4!

mind you - a CBR250RR with 4 into 4 megaphones would sound pretty good , I reckon. Someone did it in the UK a few years ago and got himself banned from all the tracks for excessive noise - 132db or something

Its slowly catching up with saws, the new ones out suck, still 2 strokes but getting heavier, slower, less reliable and more expensive. It started some time back when they made anti tamper (ie cant properly make em sing) carbs, then more restrictive pipes. As it is every saw I buy automatically has a date with the dremel to increase its performance and longevity. But its getting crazy.

Going to miss the happy howl of the CR

    so what will

become of the 125 and 250 GP bikes? Will they introduce 450cc 4 strokes into the 250 class like they did in MX. I think its sad the 2 strokers are fading away, really enjoy watching the 250 class in the NZ MX nationals, the awesome sound of the 2 stroke.

You'd be right Motu. Thats why they brought out the Elsinore (spelling?) range of motocross bikes out in the 70's/80's ?, their 4-strokes couldn't compete. The Elsinore might have been their first 2-stroke range (I stand to be corrected on that, just dredging the memory).
On the other hand I can also remember reading articles about the 2-stroke being the engine of the future with the new technology available today, and it wasn't that long ago.

Ahh. I'm guessing that you haven't ridden one then. Incredible fun in the surf. Like putting surfing and motorcycling in a blender.

I've had a lot of 2 stroke CRs over the years and I'll miss them. I can't believe that the small number of 2 stroke dirt bikes ridden for small numbers of hours (relatively) contribute more than the tiniest drop in the bucket (ocean even) to the global air pollution problem. A sad day.

Yamaha have just released the 07 YZ's at a reduced price from 06. $9995.00 for a YZ125 & $10995.00 for a YZ250. They have no plans to drop them and are continuing to develop their two stroke range.

IMO, it's more about a clean, green marketing image.

Perhaps they could go and dust off all those old press tools and casting moulds out the back of the factory.

Make mine a TZ750 with lights thanks.
