WOF Smoke tests, 2 strokes

Hiya guys

I've just read about these new WOF smoke tests, I've got a Honda MB100 and it smokes like hell no matter what oil I use. Any mechanics know if I will be able to get an exemption.
Should I consider not buying another 2 stroke because of this?
The report says:

The test involves a visual check of smoke emitted while a vehicle idles for five seconds, then while accelerating from idle to 2500rpm, associate transport minister Judith Tizard said.

If the vehicle emits clearly visible smoke for five seconds or more it will fail the warrant and need to be tuned or repaired before it can pass.

2 strokes are exempt - so don't worry about it.

All two strokes are smoky, its not a defect and can't be "fixed". But try a good oil - TOTAL 2T synthetic 2 stroke produces less visable smoke IMHO

Never fear. We nagged the MoT into , not quite an exemption, but as good as.

Two smokers, rotaries, and engines made pre 1960 only have to "not smoke more than when new".

Its even in their mnanual

From the VIR manual. Table 11-2-1

or
Vehicle with two-stroke engine or rotary engine.

2. The smoke produced is not noticeably and significantly
more visible than it would have been when the vehicle
was manufactured and supplied with the fuel
recommended by the manufacturer.

And even a worn out two stroke doesn't smoke any more than when new, cos the smoke isnt due to engine wear like it is on a four stroke. (Only exception, worn crank seals allowing gearbox oil into the crankcase.

If a tester makes noise baout your two smoker smoking, tell him to ge read the manual.

Any vehicle with a pre 1960 manufactured engine is covered by the same "not more than when new" clause.

No special treatment for bikes, EXCEPT that two strokes will normally be bikes. (Peace, you Wartburg owners).


It's all in the VIR manual.
