    Bike using gearbox oil.... any ideas?

    I went on a ride in Gissy and I noticed that the bike used about 50 - 100 mls of gear box oil and it's coming out the exhaust!!! that was after a 40km loop.

    I've had the crank seal replaced, but some of the housing was a bit damaged when my crank bearing failed. It's not that bad it's just got a few grooves in it, and it was sealed up with some silasticy type stuff my spectrum so I assume that isn't the way the oil is getting through. Is it possible that its coming out the power valve? maybe some seals there are worn?

    I'd guess if I pull the plug out and it's really greasy it's burning it and so coming from teh crank seal, otherwise if it's clean it comming through the powervalve somewhere and heating up on teh exhause and turning into smoke?????? It's got a bit of oil build up at the exhaust tip and all over m rear guard.

    Ideas?????

    The drive side main brg oil seal would be the obvious choice,and if there was damage to the casing I'd be even more inclinded to think so.Otherwise it's possible oil can come in through the crankcase join,but very unlikely.Check that right hand main again....

    Its worn in the casing so not wear the seal gets it's main wear on the crank sharft, but if I do replace it, what would you guys reccomend to use as a sealant?

    Loctite do a special grade for the purpose. try Saeco.

    But, if the housing was worn or damaged are you sure the bearing and seal are now true and concentric. If the seal is askew in any way it may wear very fast indeed. Or not seal properly.

    Like Mr Motu says , 90% probability of getting past the drive side main. Unless it's just leaking out somewhere?

    yeah when the bearing went it acually stayed intact, it just pushed the race out and put a groove into the part where the outer seats, so it's not really that bad at all. The bearing houseing is fine, its like a rangi thread was half put into my crank seal housing, it's not even very deaply marked. I might get some and just try to run a bead around the seal and see if that helps.
