Awesome...bout time we got a decent Rugby venue in Auckland. Eden park had its day but with all the NIMBY's and the money needed to be spent to upgrade it for the World Cup, it makes sense to build a bigger better venue.
Hopefully they utilize Eden Park as well for WC games so then that'll be two lots of matches us fortunate Aucks can see.

From what I understand, the stadium will be located on the water front near Auckland. To me that means Viaduct Basin. From the 2yrs I've live on the North Shore, that would place it roughly near Queen St and I think there are coffee shops down the bottom end (opposite end from K' Rd) near the large fence with empty space behind it. Seeing how large it is, wouldn't that block the view?

None. There is no rail connection between Auckland and North Shore. Britomart only services south and west (I think).

There is however a ferry service. Which terminates at the Ferry Building next door to Britomart. An incredibly sensible planner (ie the sort we don't have) would actually include a pier or wharf in the stadium design.
But does anyone imagine that they will actually run trains at the weekends, when the stadium would be in use. Dream on.
