Cool Revenue gathering or road safety ???

And first prize goes to the police revenuegathering department who have come up with the classic now.

they have been running hidden camera surveilence in the manawatu gorge and snapping anyone that crosses the double yellows including trucks that almost need to on a coupe corners.
they claim that this is in the interests of road safety (ca see a good Tui advert here)
if you go through the gorge .... look at the results of the revenue gathering exercise ...... the damage to the armco from the trucks that have rounded a couple of the corners without crossing the centreline ...... sheesh ... whatever these legal bigwigs are smokin when they come up with these supposed road safety ideas ................ I dont wanna smoke it too lmao
So to anyone that uses the gorge ....... be aware .... big dobbysmokin big brother is watching you

If I was a policeman I would be very opposed to speed/surveillance cameras of any sort as they could eventually do me out of a job. Bit like those pilot-less planes..!
If you love it, let it go. If it comes back to you, you've just high-sided!

I have no problem with anyone getting and offence notice crossing a yellow line, no matter how the offence is evidenced. Those of us who have been riding for some time either know or have heard of a biker getting wiped because some fool has crossed the centre line. Now just think about this guys before going off at the deep end.

I think this is a far better idea than speed cameras (apart from the truck bit). If they cannot get down without crossing the line then trucks should not be allowed down the road (risking the safety of oncoming traffic) until it is fixed.

Fucking good on them, if you have to cross the centre line to make a corner you dont deserve to be on the road

Another thread on this somewhere....but as much as it is a good idea on paper, in reality it is another crock of shit. The dickwads setup their stings on corners that are NOT A PROBLEM (ie full visibility throughout the manoeuvre) whilst ignoring the corners that are actually dangerous. They know they will catch few doing this on such blind corners. Tis the same as their speed traps on passing lanes....
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

There is a spot up on the port hills where the left hand lane is thinner than my bike. Most of the lanes up there are thinner than a car, but when it comes to thinner than a bike it is just stupid, because nobody can't cross the center line. If what you say holds true, then cyclists would be the only ones allowed on the road.

I'll head up and take a picture some time

Of course the cops are just an extension of the tax-man's arm. Such was admitted earlier this year in NZ was it not. Police are supposed to provide a service - that is why we pay taxes. They should not be expected to raise 'taxes' to justify their existence. If the police did a good job there would be no crime and none of these stupid 'taxes', yet no one would consider firing them all. These days, it seems as though if a cop earns $200 a day, he has to go out and recuperate it in 'taxes' - a bloody stupid bureaucratic trend if you ask me. Police should not have to pay for themselves.

If they applied the same policy to soldiers you'd soon find your self conscripted off to Iraq to get a share of the oil, would you not?

I think failure to keep left is the biggest problem on the road today, not speeding!
Unless the two are combined, then it is dangerous driving! John.

I thought that when a road narrowed beyond a limit centerlines where no longer used and the road became one lane.
They should have these cameras on every corner

Oh yeah, they are real badasses doing that and causing such a problem driving those empty roads only endagering themselves...

Do you get sick of pushing the shift key at the start of every word?

    We need a mole

Someone who is willing to be a mole and become a cop to infiltrate the system. That way they can come out with the information first hand, as to whether pressure is applied for them to achieve a certain amount of infringement notices, or whether it is a crock of shit.

I suspect it is the former, rather than the latter.
Based solely on the fact that I never seem to see any policemen with cameras in dangerous winding roads where you can never get above the speed limit without crashing off the road.

Like Scenic Drive. A large section of the road is open road, but is full of 35, 45 and 55kmh corners where you can't go 111kmh and get a ticket. (in between corners you can). But wait, no sign of a policeman with a camera to give me a ticket in the interests of road safety.

    My version of road safety.

    1. How much of the road I can see, and the condition of the surface determines my speed and where I place my motorcycle on the road, i.e. self-preservation.

    2. Are there cagers in my field of view that I need to avoid, regardless of whether they have seen me, and regardless of what they are doing, i.e. self-preservation.

    3. Secondary to my speed-based-on-road/weather-conditions theory (rule 1.), is my "is there a policeman hiding around the corner 'in-the-interests-of-road-safety'" theory. Which is more of an instinct.

Last time I checked the road code, and here yellow lines relate to overtaking.

So are the trucks overtaking on corners with yellow lines?
If so hang the bastards high I say.
If not, what are they being charged with?
