Just look around with a little patience you may find something that will suit

here is some on trade me:

If you had it for the time span you are sugesting you will not loose much on it

Just keep looking and take some for a test ride you may be surprised at how well they may suit, the crusier style is better suited to a tall person than a sportsbike as you don't have your knees round you ears
If you can't be good, be good at it

    Wot the Peanut sed.

I would place a higher value on a late eighties GN250 than on a Brand new one.

You have the money, so may as well forget about price.
250's hold their value well, so if you buy a good second hand bike at a fair price you will pretty well get it back when you sell.
Even new, the drop is usually not a great deal (compared to say a car)
I would look at a VT250 Honda if I were you.

    Why would you go cheap?
He has the money and with the way 250's hold their value it really doesn't matter, he isn't going to loose.
The lower km the machine has the less you spend on repairs and for the money he is talking about he could go new.

So if he goes new, insures it and looks after it he may loose a grand, but will have low maintenence and trouble free enjoyment (or warranty to fall back on).

If he goes second hand he is likely to spend that money on repairs instead and still loose a bit on the resale.

A mate has one, he's about your height and 100kg, he loves it, goes on long trips and rides to work, very comfortable apparently.

I would buy something 2nd hand and just get thru the time.
Does it really matter to you what you ride if it is only for 9 months?
