Wellington riders - Paekakariki Hill Rd open again

I see that there was a small article in the Dom Post this morning saying that the Piecock Hill road is opening again this afternoon.

Sounds as if there will still be work going on in off peak times so I'm not too sure if it'll be much fun at the moment.

Went over Saturday, surface has been swept on the Piecock side but is still dirty in parts . I've been travelling it for some time , someone's been making money on the repairs, although there ain't much to show for it (certainly not 2 or 3 months worth). G.

If you guys get really testy and cant be bothered going out to the Rimutakas or the hill, try a little hidden treasure I found on Saturday. Head up pass the National Hockey stadium in Newtown and up the hill to the summit of the mount. Theres five or six wonderfully sweeping corners made for a quick blast either way and its in the city, then over the hill down either way to Houghton bay or towards Kilbirnie and one of the Bay routes. I use to walk up there a lot but never taken a bike up so saw it in a 'new light' to speak. Reckon its a great place to test handling etc close to home and you can blast back down to the bottom and start again in a couple of minutes, and its a quiet road.

And best of all... if that crazy from Island bay is around, you are only a few minutes from the hospital! By the way, do we have 'feed a cat' service for fellow members? Still havent got out to Makara yet. Waiting for the perfect windless summers day sure to be coming up before April, if I get lucky.

No..... I was referring to that crazy from Island Bay wiping me out whilst playing on the hockey route. He lives in Berhampore.... just around the corner from me. My flatmate can feed the cat but it may be another idea for members to look at seriously perhaps ??

Re that thread about Road Rage just updated by our fellow member and how the cops caught the guy at last. Cheers

Cheers for the heads up on Paekakariki hill road. Been out a couple of times the last month and always bummed to see that sign, prob the best riding in the region is to be had along that road. See you out there!

Cool.. I am in Newtown. I haven't had much real cornering to test the 600 on so its darn handy to home and I can get confident and test different loading for the monoshock etc all within 2 minutes of home. Weathers been shocking last few months too. It would make a great little training run for newbies as well.

When I lived in NZ it was in Wellington (Happy Valley). While the roads are fun around there I don't think it would be any fun for a 600.

For a 600 would not do the motorway run from town, to Porirua, across to piecock, down to the hutt and then back into town? Summer morning, no plate and set off at 5am (with the bullet cam going

) to see if you can be back home before the other half gets up

Of course I do that sort of stuff, its really just been that bloody awful weather wise the last few weeks. I have always liked the trip up to the Hutt and bypass over to Haywards hill to Porirua and back down. I mean its a nice run of I suppose 60 kms?? Locals been complaining of mass police hasslement but I am happy enough to watch my speed and life goes on. I know everyone loves the Takas etc but to me its more of a Takas to Masterton to Castlepoint/Mt Bruce to Palmie and back down again sort of trip which is quite a days trip and best done in summer. The other problem is I havent had the bike on the road much since buying her a year ago, and still want to check the suspension out more etc and having the mini course so close to home allows me to do this and keep away from the killer cars of the CBD.
Mind the 600 is excellent for weaving through city traffic at speed. I never stop been amazed at how sharp and light the handling and steering is on these smaller mid range bikes. Cheers

Ohhh....I mean.... ummmmm......

Good to hear its finally opening up again. The work they have done up there is not 3months worth, so who knows what else they did.
But its open, so in the end thats all that matters.

I talked to a guy who's next door neighbour overheard a woman in mcdonalds who knew someone.... (you get the drift) Apparently the work was not being treated as a priority. There hasn't been 3 month's work going on.
