Well, that is a fairly major difference. From memory , 428 is 1/2" pitch, 520 5/8". So they are not interchangeable the way 520 and 525 are. 428 won't fit on 520 sprockets and vice versa.

But there are conversion kits for some bikes to fit the heavier chain.

Take a ruler and measure the distance between the centre of the rivet pins on the old chain. is it 1/2" - then it's 428. If it's 5/8" then it's 520. A bit over 1/2" is worn 428.

But the figures for the number of links don't make sense either. Mr Frosty spoke of 120 links. But you are saying 116. Now the bigger chain would have FEWER links (cos each is longer) not more.

Count the number on the old chain.

Unless you are replacing both sprockets anyway. In which case just buy everything matching.

The number of links is greater than reqd on a FZR to allow multiple bike/sprocket size use. Unless the chain is supplied as a 'part#' specifically for a given bike, then this would be normal practice these days.
The chain conversion I got for my 1100 had a chain of 120 links - I had to remove 2 to fit it.
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

He will appreciate the acknowledgement!! To be sure on the sprocket side of things, take your old ones in to compare the centre hole size & the bolt hole spacing, and the spline on the front one. Shops have been known to be wrong!!

I was working on the assumption a NEW set of sprockets were being fitted to go with the New chain--
To avoid any chance of a fuckup I'll send a 120 link ---Yep it WILL need cutting down (standard practice)

confirm please that the BIKE SHOP --actually looked at the bike/sprockets/chain and on viewing confirmed it was a 428 chain
I have in stock 428,520,525 and 530 so supplying any of the above wont be an issue
    Awaiting your reply

    I feel your pain Frosty.
It has a 428 on it at the moment, which is why I was confused. Everyone I spoke to said something different! Some said it needed 525 with conversion others said definately 428.... Then Frosty sent me a PM asking me to find out what size it was as he could send me one and I got TOTALLY confused!!! But all sorted now. I can fit a 520 as long as I get a certain type of sprockets...

Str8 hasn't computer access ATM but I have arranged it for her. On her behalf, thanks Frosty.
