Just checking back in, I hope Paul is improving in leaps and bounds and I also hope that you're doing well too Jill!

As soon as Paul is up to visits I'll be there, I work well within walking distance of the hospital so I could be a frequent visitor after hours if he'd like that.

Hi Paul - I'm SO sorry to hear mate (hope Jill already passed that on a few days ago). Hope you're surviving in there mate.

You know what would be REALLY cool - way better than a wheelchair?
A suped-up mobility cart! I've often thought about the cool stuff you could do to it, esp decent suspension... Oh hang on - a TRIKE!!! You could totally build/ride a trike once you're back home again. How cool would that be?!! All the controls could be altered to be used by your hands. I'm semi-excited for you now, despite this aweful situation.

But yep - hope the recovery goes real smoothly mate.

    Thanks for the updates Jill!

I was a marshall on that corner. The second to arrive.
I was awed by your riding the previous laps.
I was even more awed by your attitude in the aftermath.
You even had it in you to make a joke.
When the ambo asked you your age you gave an age, took a look at one of the racers who had come to your aid, smiled and added "...ish".
I was devestated to read this thread.
I wished at the time there was more I could do.
If there is every any way I can help just holler.

Thank you so much for your help that day Big Dog. The marshalls out there are in the most difficult position when this kind of thing happens. And, yep, Paul had been riding better than I'd ever seen him ride just before the crash.

    Brief update:

Paul is still awaiting surgery but otherwise is healing up all those injuries that can be healed. He is finding it a little frustrating to just be lying around but he realises that that is actually the best way for the multiple rib and sternum fractures to heal. He will need all the stability from those healed bones he can get.

Paul is receiving visitors so if you would like to know when and where please PM me.

We went and saw Paul last night.

He was in good spirits and yaked on for a good hour and a half in the end. Felt a little guilty that we had kept him up that long - not sure if hee needed rest or not adn was probably too polite to tell us to truck off, but hey he seemed to be into it and time just slipped away.

He seems to be coping well all things considered.

Paul has his surgery scheduled for tomorrow so if people could either visit today or hold off visiting until after the weekend that would be great. As with all things, I will believe it when the surgery is actually completed so if it is delayed, Paul will be keen for visitors over the weekend. I'll post up here tomorrow once either the surgery is complete or it is delayed.

So, in case that was confusing, visitors welcome today, but surgery scheduled for tomorrow so wait until I've given the all clear before visiting.

Paul wants me to express his thanks to everyone who has visited, called or texted. As CaN says, he is in good spirits. He'll be needing lots of visitors soon to keep him busy though! Especially with Christmas and all.

Unfortunately I've just heard that the surgery has been delayed till Monday, which is frustrating to say the least.

He'd like to have visitors today, and during the weekend of course. AKL Hospital, ward 75, room 4. Go say hi, he'd love to see you.
