Several bikers have done 190kmph indicated on their 250's on their learners on the road. Several bikers have done 270+ kmph on their full licenses on the road. This is nothing new.

People have been speeding on the roads for years and years.

I'm pretty darned sure about 95+ percent kiwibikers who ride (as opposed to those with no bikes, just internet connections) have at some point in their life exceeded the speed limit by kms.

    No one's innocent.

Here here, I would seriously doubt anyone here claiming they have not given in into impulses to either twist the throttle or step on the gas pedal.

The "safety margin" of when and where are generally an after thought for justification.

Yep, 154 on bike, ie, on the open road with no-one else at risk, is far more dangerous than, say, the buses on Sylvan Ave that constantly drive straight at oncoming vehicles.
I weary of their amateurish propaganda.
    Speed doesn't kill people.
    Stupidity kills people.

Don't be stupid Lou, ten tonnes running a red light is safe as houses.

I well remember going over 100mph back in about 1956. When I was about 17.

I had a 1000cc Vincent Rapide with a huge speedo that went up to 120mph(or was it 150?". These were the fastest things on the road in the 1950's. I did this safely on the first stretch of motorway built and opened in NZ Auckland, it was near Panmure I think.

Surely no one on this list can say they have not wanted to experience the thrill of speed. I got my Guzzi nearly up to that speed safely several times in later life. I was still young then though, I had only just turned 60.

I cant afford to risk fines now I am on the old age pension. I can just afford to register my bikes.

As you all know, Nana never speeds. (Please note , site PlodPersons, and pass the word around. If you see someone resembling me apparently speeding, you will know for certain that your rader/laser is defective and you need to return to base immediately to have it fixed). So I cannot comment on the safety of such illegal speeds.

But I have a reprobate brother (he happens to look exactly like me, and , like the rulers of mediaeval Ruess, we even have the same name) .Completely different person, but.

He has reputedly (of course, it may just be a rumour) , in the GoodOldDays when the roads were much safer (i.e. Mr Plod did not have mobile radar, and played by the rules and kept off double digit highways), been known to cruise for periods of an hour or more at a time at 90-100mph, about what our young friend got pinged for . Strangely, he lived to tell the tale (unless it was a rumour) , and the sky did not fall, and no-one (not even a kitten) was harmed as a result.

Of course, Nana entirely deprecates such illegal activity. Don't do it, it is dangerous. And illegal. And irresponsible. And anti-social. And no biker would ever want to be considered any of those things, would he .

As always, two strokes are excepted. Speeding on a two stroke isn't speeding at all, it's simply responding to the inevitable laws of nature.

Whilst the wisdom of such speeds by an inexperienced rider might be questioned, the speed itself is not inordinate for that stretch of road (well, parts of it anyway).
Attend one of my rides and you will see why I get annoyed............

Everyone is told at the before-ride-breifing:

"I cannot stop people from speeding but if you do, you are doing it at your own risk and dont come crying to me if ya pinged."

Even more interesting is my disclaimer on the ATNR thread, first post:
Disclaimer: You participate on this ride at your own risk. I will not be held accountable for anyones actions, to/from and during the ride.. Anyone who is caught endangering others by their actions will be asked to leave the ride and may be refused entry to forthcoming rides! (As we have had seen in the past)

If I have been doin this ride for 15months and havent been done - why is that?
