You might convince one person. "Illegal" for people who set up sites like Snapt tends to mean anything they think should be illegal. Waste of energy.

I agree the dob in a driver thing is a bit off the mark. But each to their own. It's been started with good intentions, and with some refinement I think it has potential.

The real benefit for us (Motorcyclists) is the opportunity to interact with other motoring groups in the discussion forums. There's already been some pretty lively debate about those things we're all too familiar with but this time we actually do have a voice that is being put to driviers on more than two wheels.

There was one guy in there saying spiltting is dangerous and it's his duty to stop it so he moves over to block bikes. Got a response from another guy, ex driving instruction cop from the UK who basically read him chapter and verse on why he needed to find a mirror, the risks he was actually posing to all etc.

I think we need a voice in there. If we don't have one we have a site where we are simply not represented and I think that's a losing proposition.

As for not being able to get through to people on various points. There are ways and means. BBQs are one, as are a vast array of other social events. Just as happens here on KB. Hell I was wondering about McJim's sexuality till I met him last night... I mean anyone the puts on a dress to pull the birds...

    But I digress.

We need to be in the forums. The photo side of things isn't my cup of tea, but... c'est la vie.

thats the type of person I hope I never meet on the road (even though they are everywhere)
I hear what you're saying, but my point is this... is there anything we (motorcyclists) can learn from it?

    Can we do anything different?

Maybe we should lobby for an awareness campaign... highlighting the fact that passing parked cars actually is legal. Teach cars how to deal with it...

I think *I* will set up a "Dob in a Biker" forum.
Blardy good idea - I'm glad I thought of it.
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....

I think we might see a mass exodus of members from KB,seems like just the place for waving threads and rants about someone seen wearing an open face helmet.

MDU, I hate to say it, but you're wasting your time. The UK driving instructor is right, but the Kiwi bloke he's lecturing will dismiss him for being both a whining Pom and a driving instructor and continue to block bikers.

We've also just been the beneficiaries of a 24 month ACC awareness campaign that was supposed to highlight pushies and motorcycles to the "general public". Yeah I wasn't aware of that either.

It's pointless trying to change driver's attitudes. The attitude has to be built from the ground up, at the inception of driver training. I've always thought that breaking the Road Code in volumes for specific vehicles was daft, because it removes awareness of some of the legalities involved in operating those other vehicle types.

I see a ManDownUnder on there.

Back on topic: See no point and from the few threads read, I don't see the quality factor on that site. We already have two dedicated sites, Kiwibiker and Sportsbike, for us general motorcyclists and that's without including those dedicated to specialist bike brands/models.

90% of the time spent writing this post was spent thinking of something witty to say. It may have been wasted.

Let's disagree on that. I see this isn't an overnight fix, but don't see that as a reason to not fix it.

There is a 1:10 ratio rule of thumb for changing a culture... it takes 1 year to change for every 10 years it has existed. Drivers have been in cars for 100 years?

Yes - and isn't it great to see all the cage drivers lining up to read about how they should treat bikers on these 2 websites.

We need to be able to moan AT them not about them.

These/those forums are great for motorcycle issues... KB is brilliant for all manner of debate and argument. But I see merit in taking some of those discussions to the general motor public as well.

Maybe it's my personal hate for "them" and "us" discussions.

That might be so. But you are not going to be able to do that on that site , because anything that is said that does not follow their party line : motorcycles are dangerous, should be banned, lane splitting is illegal etc: will be deleted before anyone has a chance to read it.

It is not a site INTENDED for debate it is a propaganda site , intended to allow a self selected group to attack and deride those not in their clique. You won't get anywhere trying to debate anything there.

That Snapd site has done one thing , though. Its convinced me that we bikers need to toughen up and stop taking shit. I've got out my honking big chain that I used to wear slung round my shoulders, I think it's time to send a few messages.

You can't fix what isn't perceived to be broken. As far as the majority is concerned, Motorcyclists need fixing as those things are "dangerous".

As laudable as your aims are, Snapt isn't the place to do it. You need a forum started with an open mind, with open debate as its goal. So nothing Governmental, Quango, Research Group, or Do-Good-Nazi oriented.
