The fruit and veges you buy in the supermarket are varieties that produce and sell well, the bottom line is always money. But there is an underground culture of unimproved seed, original settlers stock.
There is a growing market in and for, "heritage" fruit and veges.
Some of those "Maori" potatoes are quite tasty - the little purple ones.

My uncle's used to farm down in Southland. One of them was plagued by these little purple spuds and ripped them all up and destroyed them. Well most of them. He kept a patch for the garden.

Invercargill area has lots of these purple things, send these claimants down there to look after them.

I wish someone could tell me where to get proper old fashioned apples - Sturmers, Northern Spy, Docherty. And real peaches, not the tasteless things they sell now.

This is what they are really after, control of "a recent import, the toka toka gold".
Hey with a name like that I am surprised Dover isn't after control of it.

I am ashamed to say was listening to Radio Live yesterday........ and they were discussing the summer fruit we get these days, you know the tasteless hard bitter stuff.

The growers calling were pointing at supermarkets pushing for the fruit sooner and sooner and for graded fruit so they were being picked earlier, loosing precious sunshine hours and ripening time, and that supermarkets did not want to purchase their fruit that had allowed to properly ripen so resorted to selling it in road side stalls.

The growers are confused as people dont care if they wait a month for a peach if its nice and ripe, compared to the sour rock fruit we get at the moment.

Makes perfect sense to me. The carrots out of my vege patch taste totally different to those of a "purchased" variety.

Surely everyone has a vege garden in their back yard???

why this would be even entertained in the courts is beyond me. As an immigrant I have a different perspective on these kind of "goings on" and it is really strange that this kind of request isn't laughed out of court. How fucking ridiculous must it get before our government stands up and says "enough, shut up and get on with yout fucking lives!"

pre or post digestion - I don't have any still in their native state...

This is mine - that is yours shit... AGAIN??? I'll give up kumara's in exchange for them giving up... no.... no...

I'm not stooping to that level of idiocy. WE need to get along.

We need to recognise our differewnces, cultural and othwise... and we need to stop being so bloody selfish in our respective cliques. Yes we are different, yes my ancestry introduced some things, and your ancestry introduced others...

Aren't we both clever? Shouldn't we both be grateful?

BTW (I'm feeling a bit cuntly) - by rights, it should be:

Now the Maori Want Their Kumara Back

But I guess, to be really pedantic, it'd be summat all in Te Reo.
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....
