'Tis a wonderful thing, the indernewt. When i was that age , y'had to go get your haircut to get a perve (an y always wondered why kids back in them days always had such short hair, didn't y' ) . Now you can get your jollies in the comfort of your own home.Must be a bugger for the barbers , though.

Yes, I think you need to have a serious talk to him about search terms. His vocabulary seems stunted.

I have no kids so I don't have these problems, and am not ungrateful.

I would expect a boy to be curious about such things. Certainly I'd rather he looked at pictures of girls than the KKK website or some of the other hate sites kids round here were looking at a while back.

I liked scumdogs idea, pass on the porn but punish the lie.

I have never been interested in porn to be honest. I haven't ever seen a porn movie but just kinda think it would be frustrating. A little liken to sitting on your bike with the keys in the igintion watching other people ride. That just me though.
But you can rev the crap out of it while you watch

I haven't really looked in to parental controls and Net Nanny and the likes yet, but it's something I'm going to have to do soon. My daughter's homework this week was to research a childrens author... of course it just happened to be 'Dick King Smith'

I made sure I sat with her when she did the Google search. I was quite suprised at how clean the results were though, well done Google

Go to: "Control Panel", click on "Internet Options", select the 4th tab "Content", and click "Enable" for the Content Advisor". On the first tab "ratings, make sure every choice ie. "sexual material" & "nudity" have the
slider set to as far left as it will go. Then set an "Supervisor password" on the "general" tab that only you and your partner/wife know. Problem solved.

I'm with Jim2 on this one. Full controls and supervision on any interweb access for the kids.

No point making their lives unpleasant if you catch them out doing what kids (well, boys) have always done, but they do need protecting. Net pr0n isn't Playboy; I really don't want my son developing an obsession with anal intercourse and facial ejaculations.

And be aware, folks, that you need to set up access control software properly, or your 13-year-old will simply bypass it as soon as you're out of the room. Typically, the default installation doesn't achieve this. Get a tame geek to do it for you if necessary.

Actually, telling him how easy it is to find out exactly where he's been and that he cannot hide his "trails" may be more of a deterrent. I agree, talk to him about how you feel about this and set firm guidelines that you expect to be adhered to.

It may be a good time to sit with him and discuss the subject in general as at 12 he's beginning puberty and his thoughts and feelings are going to be in some turmoil for several years, now. He's probably not going to know whether he's Arthur or Martha, or which way is up at times!

    You answered your own question.

An alternative answer might be....you and the missus make a porn video, post it onto the net, make it so the little rascal finds the vid and sees it, Im sure this will put him off porn, seeing his parents nekid and sweaty....
Alternatively, invest in some software like net nanny etc.
FINE. This is the word women use to end an argument when they are right and you need to shut up.

Look on the bright side. At least he's not gay.

He's perfectly normal and is doing what comes natural to him. Make a big deal of it and it will backfire on you. Remember the first time you woke up, felt funny and thought, "this is new - cool." Well, it's his turn now.

    He's perfectly normal ...

Good point, too. Assuring him he's perfectly normal is important and that he's going to be curious about a lot of stuff from now on and will experience a lot of confusion and mixed emotions can open the way for good communication. Our kids knew they could talk to us about anything without judgement which made it easier for them to accept and understand our standards.

Despite what kids say, especially as teenagers, they do respect their parents deep down and need to know they are understood and loved unconditionally. Much of the aggro is hormonal and can be passed over, though not always easy in the heat of the moment.

We did a lot of bushwalking with ours and the fresh air, scenery, (been up Mt. Pirongia?), and exercise was as good as Prozac without the side effects. Lead to a lot of close communication about all sorts of subjects.

Mostly all said in the thread above, but...

Sit down with your kids and explain that they will have free use of the machine (obviously in a public area of the lounge) - BUT you will sit down with them once a fortnight/week and go through the history file with them and then clear the history file.
They need to comprehend that they will need to answer for all of the sites that have been visited.
Also explain that if you find the history file tampered with or cleared, the trust has been broken and access to the internet will be removed/rationed/monitored/etc.

This method can work quite well.

Sounds like you have opened well there cowboy, and it is promising to note that he came out with the truth fairly smartly. Focus on the bigger issues is the way to go, he is going to go through heaps of changes and confusion (as I'm sure you can remember some of) and laying good foundations for communication will be needed if not already established. Curiosity level is normal, hiding the behaviour is also normal, the next couple of years should be interesting! Good luck.
