Yes
No
I don't care either way
I see what you mean. A lot of time was wasted with rot in that thread.
This is a free country do what you want. Private parties are private parties - anyone not invited shouldn't attend.
Usually most people know by hanging around here long enough the type of ride it's going to be based on who all post their intention of turning up, hence we have not had to be blatant on who we want on the ride.
Every, yes every ride I've organised has been a public road race, most know of this, the ones who like this sort of riding leave happy, those than don't like it cruise at the back or don't turn up next time.
Now with so many new people here it is difficult to keep track of things, so post exactly what you wish for - maybe not at first, but soon you will have exactly the kind of riding buddies you want.
Kind regards,
JSG

So why the concern for negative comments??BLOCK THEM...PRESS A KEY.The ones throwing the banter are the ones who wont ride in your organised ride anyway!!!I appreciate a male on my rides as if something should go wrong it will be a man who I ask for help first!!they are more mechanically minded and have the stregnth to lift bikes up onto trailors when needed!!!Not to mention they DO have a place on this planet....
All the male riders I know encourage and are terrific guys to ride with..long before I came across kb..and the guys I have met on kb I have ridden with them and they appreciate my riding level and we all just get on and RIDE!!!

Usually a "ride" is a social gathering to one degree or another. In general social activities are most successful when those involved have common values and enjoy common activities.
Women enjoy socialising with other women (of course, they also enjoy socialising with men. But sometimes they like to get together and do girly type stuff). Invariably utterly boring to guys.
So why shouldn't they?
And likewise, if some guys want to organise a guy-centric ride (in reality a lot are anyway), which focuses on guy type activities - strippers, rugby, noisey dirty guy type stuff, then likewise why shouldn't they.
And if some of the old fart members want to organise a ride where the social aspect centres around old fart activity ? Why not.
And so on
The only question that really needs to be asked is "When a ride's social aspect is oriented to a specific group, should there be rigid exclusionary measures to prevent those not contained within that group from attending".
I would have some concerns if the answer to that were "Yes". If Maurice (technically male) wished to tag along on a chics' ride (because he REALLY wants to attend the cosmetic demonstration at the end of the ride) he should be able to. Likewise if the guys organise a ride to the rugby match, and a rugby mad chic wants to go along, then let it be so. In general it will not be an issue. The nature of the ride will discourage those who are not its target demographic.
Only priviso should be that "outsiders" should not be permitted to complain about the activity not suiting them.
Even racially oriented rides would be perfectly acceptable - if some Indian members (for instance) organised a ride to attend the opening of an Indian temple, where is the harm in that.
EDIT: What the question really indicates is that there is a need for thsoe organising public rides to be more specific or detailed about the purpose of the ride: Whether that be a road race; a ride to X to have coffee and girly gossip; a ride to Y and crusty trainspotter arguments totally boring to anyone under 60. Etc

Every ride on this site is based on "motorcycles" being common ground, so some people wish to increase the amount of commonalites within this group? So what!
Gee next someone will call me discriminatory for only inviting 'new riders' and 'kb mentors' to the AWNMR.
Did someone forget to pinch one out this morning and now a bit 'ratty' ?![]()

Girls, organise your own rides.
I think Ixion commented very well in that some rides will be targeted to a certain type of demographic (rider). Posting what type of ride it will be helps me decide whether I should come along. Knowing a ride is going to be about stopping at a cafe and talking about nails, hair and guys...I don't want to go on that ride.
I love going on group rides, and have a lot of fun riding with the girls and guys on those. However, I don't feel the need to be included in every single ride, if the organiser is trying to attract a specific 'audience' (demographic/rider), which in some cases may not appeal to me.

honestly...do whatever you want. myself, i prefer to ride solo. if i do ride in a group, i prefer males. i may get left behind, but then my preferance for solo rides comes into play.
i generally dont get on well with other women, so a womens only ride, for me, would turn into a cat fight.

the really happy person is one who can enjoy the scenery when on a detour.
The issue is not if girls can organise rides. It is if anyone can organise a girls ride.
To do so is against the law - the law that the women of the world demanded - and got.
Would KB girls allow us to organise a boys-only ride? No fucking way!!!!!!!
So get real. It's not about girls organising rides, it's about girls organising 'girls rides'.
Girls, your lot started this PC crap, now you gotta live with it.
btw ... I'm wondering when "Configure - gym for women" is going to get its dues and be closed down or forced to allow men to join. You don't see THAT on the front page of the paper - hell no!!!!
After reading the thread Mrs Kendog kindly gave a link to I think I would be quite keen to go on that ride. This is because it is a ride to a show and as there are a few chicks on GN's going on it I wouldn't be the only person on a slow bike holding up another ride.
That said I think there should be chicks only rides when they want to. However maybe a ride and coffee or suchlike is a better reason for one than a ride to a biking event that a lot of bikers will want to go to.
