MoT seeking input on 70kph learner limit

This post is from the MoT road safety forum

Currently, motorcycle riders in the learner phase of their licence must not travel faster than 70km/h. The intention of this condition is to keep the most inexperienced riders out of the highest speed zones. However, the restricted test examines a rider's ability to ride on roads where the speed limit might be up to 100km/h.

The Ministry of Transport is considering whether this condition of a learner licence should be removed to allow learner riders to practice this skill before sitting the restricted test. What are members thoughts on this? Should the condition be removed altogether, or after a certain period of time on the learner phase so riders can practice for their restricted test?

"woodm" is a member of the Ministry. So, there y'go. The faceless ones are asking what people think. So , now is the time for everybody who has grumbled about that limit to take effective action to get it removed. Speak now, or shut up about it.

Dead easy, you have to register but it's just KB. Post is in the Motorcycles forum (yep, they have a specific forum for bikes!)

Thanks for that, Ixion. My 2cents added
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

Is there any reason why you didn't post a link to the exact thread in question? Because I had a hard time finding it ;s.

The registration process is taking its time to conclude (a little biker waits).

Because to post , you have to register (just like KB). I assumed most people wouldn't be. And a link to the thread wouldn't help with that.

It's in the Motorcycle forum. Titled 70kph restriction.

If the Ministry of Transport is leading this, there must be a discussion paper out. Does anyone have info on who the contact person is at the MoT?
    A verbal submission is excellent.
