You are right. Motorcycling in the UK has become something of a pain, what with the speed cameras of various kinds, huge gain in traffic density, the general cutbacks in road maintenance, and the vast increase in the number of diesel vehicles on the road belching out their fumes and spraying foam out of the filler caps on every roundabout. Not to mention the many foreign drivers who can't.

I'm going to pop into customs early Jan and find out what the deal is with bringing multiple bikes into NZ.

I'll tell ya for one of the RCs.

Hell I'd even pay the shipping.

Will be good to see more on the road. Rare as rocking-horse shit at the moment.

There's one on US eBay right now- bids starting at US$50K; buy it now at $100K. Even though they are rare, I don't think so, somehow...

I've seen ones for sale here for $40,000 New Zealand bucks. I think you're right.

Don't know about his bike, but my Dad's mate's one with all the HRC goodies had pistons, radiators, valves, conrods, gears, wiring loom, everything replaced. All that stuff easily adds up to that power, but also makes the bike very fragile and expensive to fix (which is sooner since lighter parts don't last as long).

For those VFRPS members that haven't seen, here's how my bike is looking: http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/sh...36#post1851236

You can still buy HRC stuff from Honda for the RC45, but the '30 goodies are long gone. Every now and then a stash of parts turns up, some used, some new, often as spares with an ex-racebike.
A lot of used HRC stuff is coming on the market now as people convert their racers back to street bikes, which appeal more to the collectors unless there's serious racing history. The TT-winning Fogarty bike sold a short while for just a few thousand pounds more than a stock, zero-mileage RC30. Despite what one may think of Fogarty, that was a bargain.
Luckily for people with tweaked '30's, there are quite a few around and that has created something of a demand for parts to be remanufactured, so the HRC-pattern pistons and other critical motor parts are now coming available again.

Oh ok. I would have thought it would be a bit of a process to buy parts off honda HRC unless you are a recocnised racer. Like MC21 racing ignition (I think?) needed to be bought with some kind of race licence as its illegal for road use.

Well, your mileage may vary but in my experience, if you have the part number, the money, and it's in the Honda parts system, you can buy it.

As some will be aware, I have an NC30 track bike, and I also own another NC30 in pieces (bought just because it had rego on hold, and an RVF rear wheel)

Just looking at this stuff in my garage, and some NC30's with Tyga bodywork on the 'net and whatnot*, it occurred to me to wonder whethar anyone had gotten or tried to get a VFR800 motor into an NC30 chassis? an NC30 motor is quite big, and I cant imagine a VFR800 motor being much bigger.

Imagine, if you will, an NC30 (or 35) with 800cc and a straight pipe! Given RC30's and RC45's are almost unobtainable (and REALLY expensive) here, might not this be the way forward for people in love with the V-4 concept?

*I also have the latest Performance bikes mag at home and a guy had an FZR400 which he has stapled a worked 997cc Fireblade motor into.

anybody got access to a meausring tape and some hammers, zip ties and duct tape and want to give it a whirl? Enquiring minds and all that.

I would expect the 800 engine to at least be taller, which could be an issue.
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....

I reckon it would be minimal and the height wouldnt be too much of an issue because the frame goes around the motor. might have to faff about with the tank/cover/airbox/fuel cell but the bore and stroke of the 800 is 72 x 48 and the 400 is 55 x 42. things like motor mounts and countershaft sprocket position would be interesting.

    just idle speculation.
