Parked my bike in AKL for 3 days while I went visiting NZ!

I hired a car (from Auckland) to go travelling with a mate. The people I was meant to leave my bike with stood me up. So I went looking at different car parking places. Each time I asked an attendent I this conversation:
"How much is parking.. I need to park the bike for 3 days"
"$50 per day."
"But it's just a bike... fits anywhere"
"$50 per day."

Bitch asses. How can you charge that much for such a small space! You could fit 5 bikes to one car space! I finally make my way to the carpark on corner of Albert & Kingston. When I get there I am happily greeted by a sign saying "Motorcycle... $5 per day". So I spoke to the clerk, paid $15 and picked the bike up 3 days later.

I am so sick of paying the same as a car for using so much less. It's absolutely unfair! With higher vehicle registration, equivalent road tolls to cars [god knows why], and all that other garbage. It was excellent to find that car park that understood bikes aren't cars!

Most Wilson car parks will let you park for free if you park in a place that is not in the way and is not an actual full size carpark.

Outside of when work has been paying the bills I have never paid for parking in the city.

Auckland City Council car parks (Civic, Britomart, others) allow bikes to park for free. I've parked for 2, 3 days. Just leave the bike, collect it on return. No cost. Cars have a bit of a hassle when they do that, but bikes noone knows or cares. Just an idea to mention to the attendants that you be leaving it overnight in case smeone thinks it's a stolen bike dumped.

I had to park my car in Wellington when the 7's were on...didn't know where to go so just parked in one of the car park buildings, came back 3 days later and pressed the "I lost my ticket" button and paid $20...only to drive to the gate to find it open...seems they don't charge parking on Sunday mornings!!!

I have never paid for parking for the bike. Several times, not wishing to have the bike removed or towed, I've tried to but been stumped by machines refusing to give me tickets (not enough metal over the induction loops in the tarmac to trigger a vehicle-present signal) or have been told by attendants not to bother. Quite a few car-park attendants have even told me where to dump the bike out the way and promised to keep an eye on it.
No doubt thieving bastards like Tournament Parking would want an arm, a leg and promise with your little sister - per day - for the privilege of parking your bike in other wise wasted space. But that's why I never use them, on the bike or in the cage.

I park where I stop. Be it a pavement, someones driveway, garage, even in someones lounge once...

Never paid for parking. Ever.

Even when I owned my mini, it was small enough to squeze through the bollards etc.

We pay higher REG costs, so in my mind that means I can park it flipping anywhere I please. I like going clubbing on my bike, pull up next to the bouncer "make sure no fuckers touch her mate" and walk into the club... I know alot of the bouncers in town, so they always look after Suzi for me!

Actually, I didn't know about KB until the exact day I arrived in AKL. The short story is that I was almost out of petrol and pulled up next to this guy, alias 'OldFella', and he rode with me to the nearest petrol station (I had gone off-route to find petrol and had no idea where I was). He was the one who told me about KB; that was a couple of weeks ago now.

The reason I was willing to pay for parking was because I don't really know Auckland that well and had 2 hours to find somewhere, anywhere to park it! My thoughts were that it would be stolen for sure if it was left on the streets for 3 days. I was aiming to park it not-visible to the street and to have some attendant around for peace of mind. None of the attendants seemed helpful, let alone offered a nice corner of the parking lot for free!

Is it legal to park the bike on the pavement in NZ?

I'm not sure about "legal" but you would be hard pushed to find anyone that had parked their bike out of the way on the pavement who got a ticket for it

A bike can easily slip around the barrier arm at the long-term covered car-park at the Auckland International Airport.

Doable at most carparks lol, even ones with attendants :-P
My partner spends a fair bit of time and the hospital and all the parking is pay parking there but I never pay for it.. when I go in I just detour around the arm, same on the way out. I figure I dont park in a car spot so they shouldnt charge me :-P
