Same thing happened to us last April. Heavy misty rain that sat on the visor rather than rolling off it plus a bit of fog plus misting on the inside of the visor meant if it hadn't been for the sign at the top we wouldn't have even known we went over the Otira Viaduct. True! We stopped at a wee tea shop just afterwards and Mrs Oakie asked when we were getting to the viaduct.

No, can't help you on that one.
That rider is totally a selfish #!#@nutter.
I only toodle riding around there simply because it is too busy. I'm a nana around those hills at the best of times.
Don't let them put you of, you are not them you sound like you have a healthy respect for yourself & others on the road.
As for riding to the Streetraces, think of it as a great adventure.
You can always do some smaller big rides leading up to it. Especially once the ice & grit starts to disappear.
The ride to the Bealey pub is awesome. I'd be in for one there once the weather improves.
Actually, having lived in Chch, I'd say any part of the Port Hills is a silly place to do anything but be sensible: the roads are all narrow, and visibility restricted. At any hour of the day you'll come across cyclists, predestrians, cars, sheep, and people taking prostitutes off for a roll in the grass...![]()
... and that's what I think.
Or summat.
Or maybe not...
Dunno really....![]()
Thanks guys
Appreciate the support! Am saving up to get some decent gear so hopefully that will help me feel better about riding to Greymouth, but will wait and see. Definatly try and get out and do some more smaller rides
