They are of course there to scare away flies attracted to the rich aroma coming from his armpits.

    I wonder...
If he stuck a pillion on the back, he would have to move forward a little, and his hands would probably be behind his back slightly.

I guess in a crash he's already in the "Splat" position.
I finally got my knee down! …and my shoulder …and my pillion’s head.

tassles are a form of pre-historic Harley speedometer, the faster you go the further back they point.

they are still used to this day in keeping with the rest of the technology on a Harley

I can imagine a painful moment with a bee or a flicked cigarette.

It's America, they don't have corners there do they?

Has anyone here ever ridden a bike with apehangers? Or do we just have 2 pages of assumptions?

Yeah, ridden a few. Actually, they handle reasonably well (well, not all of them did, but that was cos they was piles of shit generally, not cos of the ape hangers). Slow speed turns can be a bit taxing, depending on how long y' arms are.

I think the thing was though, even with ape hangers, it does help if you can actually reach the things.

    There's ape hangers ...then...well.....those things!

Many states in the USA have a height limit on apes - way under those foolish ones

I suppose the opposite end of the spectrum is a sport bike with an extended front axle and grips on either side!
