tassles are a form of pre-historic Harley speedometer, the faster you go the further back they point.

they are still used to this day in keeping with the rest of the technology on a Harley

Yeah, ridden a few. Actually, they handle reasonably well (well, not all of them did, but that was cos they was piles of shit generally, not cos of the ape hangers). Slow speed turns can be a bit taxing, depending on how long y' arms are.

I think the thing was though, even with ape hangers, it does help if you can actually reach the things.

Yes once or twice.There is a reason why race bikes have clipons.
Shit showing my age again.Ah well getting old is a bastard but it definately beats the alternative.
