Me an a mate clicked up 10 or 15 photos each with various poses from a fixed camera at Westshore early one morning a few years back.

The best one probally was of him one handed on the back wheel flipping the finger with his spare hand.

Got bored in the end and left.

But I did think later, Shit hope that didn't piss them off enough to come looking.

Maybe a neighbour coulda taken our numbers... that woulda hurt.

But now I think "Best to let sleeping dogs lie".

If ya feel inclined to flip the finger then the revenue collector might feel inclined to track you down or worse still make everyone else pay by forcing us to wear a plate up front.

    Now that would really suck!

I have seen a few number plates mounted on a spring loaded hinge plate which is connected to a soliniod.

Push the horn button and ping, the plate filps up.

Look out if Plod susses it though.

I remember a few years ago some Dunedin students got some serious PD for nicking the number plates off a speed camera van (while the dude was still in it) and putting it on their car and then went blasting around town past all the Speed cameras they could find.

I can see the funny side to this, the speed camera van getting heaps of speed camera fines.

But they did it once too often and got busted.

So there might be a clue in there.

If ya wanna go fast check out the track days on this forum.

You'll get to keep ya licence and probally live longer too.

    Cheers

As others have said, they sure can.
Reality though. I have never had a ticket in the mail from the front despite having been snapped at least half a dozen times in the last 3 yrs.
Despite what it may look like, I wouldn't set out to tempt fate though, that would be just begging them to focus on it.

They looked seriously at this one recently but it was officially abandoned. None of the bike manufacturers would support it, said it could create instability and cause accidents. Bless them.

I got a ticket from a fixed speed camera that I used to pass every day to work. It was my first scooter and it had the license label on the front of the bike and they must have been able to zoom in. I always slowed down for that camera but one day I must have completely forgot and actually been going faster than normal.

I read on here of a guy in Australia that went past at ridiculous speeds and positions and the police tracked him down. They were able to pin it on him easily as he was clearly visible in the photos and still had the same bike/leathers/helmet.

Some of the fixed ones actually takes you from behind... :buggered:

But the idea of nicking the mobile speed camera license plate is bloody hilarious.

    Had a joke back home:

A guy was driving down the road at legal speeds and gets snapped by a speed camera.
Puzzled he turns around and goes by the speed camera once more - at legal speeds - and gets snapped again.
In disbelief he does it a third time and same thing happens.
He then tires of the game and drives home.
Three days later in the mail he receives three fines for not wearing his seatbelt.

Not THAT old granny of an urban myth!!

It happened in London/Brisbane/Christchurch ...you name the city.

Look, the camera does not just print out a ticket with the car owners name/address whatever automatically each time a picture is taken - SOMEBODY had to find out who owns the car so they can post them the ticket.

Surely you don't think they would have somebody blindly posting off tickets to the NZ Govt Speed Camera Company do ya???

I've seen the orange flash on several occaisons, and it was pretty innocent.

Wasn't anything extreme just going fast enough over the limit to set it off.

Havent had any tickets in the post. Although I did forget about the van on the north side of the harbour bridge. Hope the cop was in snooze mode lol!

I hate these vans , by the time you get close enough to see if its a speed camera or not , ironically it is usually too late to slow down. I drive like a nana now when I see a van anywhere, and I flick the finger too, just in case I have mistaken my speed and get a ticket.

Didn't someone show the bird to a pole mounted camera and they got done for assaulting an officer? They argued that they were doing it to the camera but the po-po said he knew a cop would look at it and it was a form of assault.

Dunno, sounds very "urban legend" but who knows? Maybe Snopes?

I got caught when a camera van radioed ahead that there was a red Ducati coming through at 130k.
I got stopped about 5km up the road.
