The Police have done a good job, will the Justice and corrections follow the trend or will they let the cops down again, like they usually do!

    Nice one anyway Oakie. John.

Thanks for that. Start time is 10.15am but I think that's just the start time for the morning list of hearings. Might not get called for some time after that. With a bit of luck he'll change his plea before that anyway so it'll then just be a sentencing hearing.

All good mate. I'm keen on justice being served and if I can help convince the (truly apathetic) NZ justice system to dish out more of it then I'm in!

Good to hear they have been caught and that one has done the correct thing and getting on with his consequences. Pity about the other one causing more money to be spent on him. Good luck to the prosecuters on the day on 20 March.

Final wash-up on this subject. We found out yesterday from the police that the second guy (a certain Mr Trevor Munro) got 200 hours community service and was ordered to make restitution to the insurance company of $4300. Apparantly he has already paid this.

    Ok, movin on now ....

Oh, incidentally, because Mrs Oakie frets a little now whenever her bike is all alone, I entered a competition in last months Bike Rider Magazine for a 'Grip Lock' security device and won one for her. Nice! . I wasn't the only KBer to win one either. A certain Otematata resident also got lucky..

Hmm.. I have a mate called Josh Stewert (what an overly common name) and something like that is right his alley..

I'll have to call him some time and see if it was him...

Good news sort of, unfortunately the punishment aspect of our restorative justice system is minimal, no real incentive for some to behave really.

I could suggest what I believe our system should do but really what's the point no one would listen or those that do have little or no influence.
Its not the destination that is important its the journey.

So the first guy gets some porridge, while the second guy pleads not guilty, and gets 200 hours community service (whcih he probalby won't do) and pays some money. I assuem you dont' get to see any of it for the worry.

And what is it with fines that these toerags won't pay. Surely the judges know they won'e pay so why bother? If they must give them fines, make it 7 days to pay or jail (solitary and hard labour) for a goodly period. Fining them, when they have outstanding fines already must be a waste of time.

A few years ago, I was run over by a car while on my Valkyrie. The bike was totaled. The only good part was I ended up getting more from the insurance company than I paid for it. That was a first, actually making money off of a bike.
Hope the little thief meets some nice people in jail!

I am sure he will, it will also be a good training ground. he will pick up some "tricks of the trade" and maybe next time will get away with it. He is probably on the path to become a career criminal, which in turn will cost us all in taxpayers money, insurance etc. Fucking bastard should be let loose in a room with a group of bikers and baseball bats, then we will see if he wants to pinch a bike again!

Good on ya Oakie and it sounds like Mrs Oakie got a good deal from the insurance company. She shouldn't have to pay anything... any excess can be recovered by the insurance company too from the sack o shite at $5 per week from his benefit (deducted before he gets it) for the next 15 years.... There is a named wrongdoer and they shuold recover all insurance losses from him, not you...
