Now there's a good idea. Anyone on a bike that doesn't qualify for the run (too big, too fast, too dear) , gets to carry all the luggage, beer, tools, spare parts . Thus making things easier for the little ones, and justifying their existence.

It used to be possible to camp by the beach on one of the bays about two back from the cape. Turn off to the right and down some steep hills. Gravel back then. Not an official campsite, mind.

    I'll be a starter if I can locate a bike .

Lookin around for a bike, a few likely candidates below

    Old School Class

Or the chopper pit bike. Check out those ape hangers!

Nah, but in all seriousness, having trouble finding a suitable bike. Was hoping to do it on a motorcross style bike, but none are rego-and-WOF-able at under a grand. Might end up sticking on some mirrors and trying for a rego and wof, but dunno if i'd pull it off. Plus i outdo the max weight limit on most of them without any gear on
Lookin like i might have to do it on a scooter, or if i cant find a bike i'll volunteer to be in the cage and load it up with people's gear so those poor little beasts actually have a chance of making it in one piece!

A cage for gear would be bloody useful.. I've decided to do it on the scooter but
in terms of storage space, all it boasts is a basket up the front

I don't reckon i'll participate in the sponsership side of things.. it'll be a bit of a stretch to get the money just for myself let alone other people aswell! But anything I have left over i'll chuck in the pot.

Personally, obviously I don't speak for all, I have no objections with sleeping on the side of the road, done it a few times and it really isn't all that bad.

I've started taking the scoot out for rides instead of the cruiser to familirise myself with it a bit better.. gotta find some gravel somewhere to practice on.

I'm happy to help with some of the organising. Got my Comprehensive First Aid Cert as well, just in case.

Will need a bit to time to sort a bike out, but a road trip to get it is another part of the adventure. May need some help restoring/tinkering with it if anyones keen, I don't think i have enough tools.

Reckon Frosty might be up for it with his van?

While this is a worthy sentiment, and I agree it is not difficult or bad, sleeping by the side of the road is not too difficult with one person doing it but if we get 30+ contenders it could be a bit of a hazard. I am thinking of the safety of the locals as well as the contenders. Especially should it rain. Ride is on if wet or cold, all part of the challenge, I am however not confident that the locals would not object to 30 wet and bedraggled bikers were going door to door looking for a bed.

The ideal would be if someone knew someone with a farm that had a barn we could use. Or a paddock to make camp in.

Also if we have a campsite having a few beers and a feed is more practical without getting arrested.

yeah, all this organising, i feel, is contrary to the spirit of the thing. even those "entry requirements" are a bit silly as they exlude alot of bikes still horribly suited to this journey (like an old xr200 is still worth over a grand, but would otherwise be perfect) - as soon as you get sponsorship we may be obligated to stick to those requirements, which will only exclude riders who otherwise would be fine to come (50cc scooters, fxr 150 etc are mostly over a grand)

i was under the impression we were just going to get some ridiculously unsuitable/shitty bikes and go on a ride to somewhere ridiculous and have senseless fun as bikes start falling to bits. obviously we'd need a car or two, with a trailer/van to carry broken machines and their riders, but that was about the extent of it

once we've got a route, we can look at a campsite or accomodation. i'm all for having an actual bed - but whenever i camp on a ride i just find some backroad and set up on the grass verge down the side

doesn't mean i wont come, but i'd probably do it on the fxr.

True about the large amount of numbers going.. completely forgot about that..

I reckon it would actually be somewhat important to set up a proper route then so we can actually start to look for farms or something that may be able to assist us. I reckon we could probably get away with just bringing a whole load of tents (if someone's willing to take a hit and drive a cage) and just set up in fields and hope to hell the farmer's are friendly..

And yeah.. dry weather would be nice but who needs it. It all adds to the hilarity.

Rules are still open to discussion.
As stated, if it is judged to be suitably inappropriate then any bike will do.
The rules posted were more of a guideline for proof of concept.

I feel that having a cage to carry tent and shit is getting away from the whole idea of the ride. So is using 201cc+ bikes to carry the crap.
Unsuitable bike loaded right up with tents and shit would be even cooler.

I've got a work mate with an old CB200 thats been sitting in his garage for the last ten years. Might offer him a couple dozen for it.
While you sit there liking things just cos' everyone else does, I'll be standing up here keeping it real.

The whole idea is to be as challenged as you believe you can manage. The challenge is the point not the destination.

For some people taking a M50 with saddle bags and a support car would be a challenge.

we will still need a support car with trailer or a van or ute or something to carry the bikes that fail
