I get a giggle at Ducati service interval advertising they have only been extended to 12k since 2007 and in reality owners will be doing at least oil at 6k regardless what the factory says. I got this from a Ducati dealer so don't start the poo-poo
I think that Ducatis got such a bad rep re servicing in the past that they have had to promote it. Never owned one so unsure if it was justified. Its been implied that shops were creaming it on servicing costs.
My Honda has 6 k intervals but these are basically a oil/filter, head gear is not adjusted until 24k. Most water cooled ones are similar. Oil/oil are 6k heads at 12.
Of interest my Honda service manual states oil/filter at 12k & sweet f-all at 6 - like a 10 minute inspection. No Shit. So even with NZ's 6k oil/filter requirement (why?) I'll be asking questions if there is more than 45 mins labour!
There is no reason bike shops cannot have set expectations of time intervals involved in standard servicing as cars do. My Honda Accord service book have specified times per service printed in the book. I never had one go over either!
Anyway - I've been a Kawa fan for years but in this case the V twin Suzuki would win me.
I rode both before plumping for the ER6n; mainly as I found it easier to ride and I thought it looked more modern.
Owned the ER6n for 15 months/20,000k and it was great - no probs at all, just the normal 6k services & lubing the chainYou can get some quite good deals on new ones too.
The only thing I changed was the exhaust as they are a bit quiet as standard (also I found the standard mirrors crap, the optional "sports" ones are much better) - managed to get an Akrapovic at NZ$600 ish from overseas.
Biggest downside IMO compared to an SV would be lack of & price of aftermarket bits.

Better to keep quiet and have people think you're stupid than open your mouth and prove it!
